I do not think weight is the difference here. Remember BF has lots of stereo equipment and extra batteries. Also a four stroke usually has a higher rpm range than a two stroke, helping to make up for the extra weight.
Hell... my 50 hp does 20 MPH in the right conditions. That would make for a competitive race with the above 90 Hp Honda. :box

Hey Toondog, what size prop do you run on your 50? I have a 50 4s honda and a 18 foot sweetwater looking for some prop help and advice. Thanks, Neal

I run a 12.5x13 prop on my 50 hp evinrude 2 stroke.. RPMS are around 5400-5600.
Check out the prop wizard on this site. It will only recommend their props. Other than hitting submerged stumps, I have had good luck with them. :thumbsup

Hey Toondog, thanks for the info, just curious, was the size prop you run the one the wizard selected for you or is it a second or third pick after the fact?
thanks
Neal

This was and is the worst thread hi-jacking I have ever seen on the internet. I think only 2 or 3 people even tried to stay on track. How did we get to speakers and amp's when he needs help with a prop? And who cares if you can outrun him or anyone. This is a question not a open topic post.

Because it's part of the discussion doofy. :biggrin2 If a 24 ft boat with a 60hp 2-stroke and lots of extra weight (amps, speakers and batteries) can go faster than a 90hp 22ft boat, somethins aints right. :donno

It got it right the first time. My boat came from the factory with a 12.5x13 and that's what it recommended for water sports. It also recommend a 12.25x15 for speed. I did get that one just recently too, but it seems like a little too much prop for my boat. Make sure you accurately list the extra weight. If you don't it will move you up one pitch.

jimrs, I will give you that we do get distracted easily. :biggrin2
BUT the worst hijacking??? I don't know about that.

Shine - Prop calculator at TurningPoint worked well for me. I am currently using one of their props recommended for speed and it works well letting motor almost reach max RPM. I have also used the caluclator on Mercury Marine wedsite and it is also good. You need to be fairly close with your weight as Toon Dog suggests.

thanks

toondog wrote:In all seriousness, something is not right. Wrong prop, too much weight, too much weight up front, throttle adjustment or maybe somethings not right with the engine.
What is the best way to rule these out? I went from a 15 to a 13 pitch prop which did bring my RPM's and top speed back up some, but still below the recommended max. Using the previously mentioned calculator, it showed 13 for top speed and 15 for heavy weight water sports. Before I go trying an 11 pitch, how do I verify my engine is capable of even reaching 5500 rpms? I am afraid of trying to run it that high in neutral because I am not sure that would be wise to run that high with no load on it. Would it?

I am high jacking this thread, but my situation is about the same as the original poster. 22 footer with 90HP Yamaha and I can squeeze out maybe 22mph but the RPM's are only getting to about 4600 rpm's. Recommended top is 5500

Thanks
