I had my trailer brakes reworked an had the wheel bearings packed 380 bucks? He replaced 2 wheel cylinders. Seems high to me but I haven't had time to mess with it myself. Think they got me?

If all they did was replace two wheel cylinders then yes. But what else did they do. Packing wheel bearings is not that hard of a job but messy. However if this was a boat dealer then your guess is as good as mine. Some are high as hell and some are fair.

Where I live the labor rates are right at $100 bucks an hour.
I think they took about 3 hours to do the job = $300 bucks
and $40 bucks in parts on each side = $80 bucks
For a dealer, this is probably about right.
The more a guy can do himself, the better off he will be.
Over a lifetime this can add up to BIG money..
AND...I am positive when I do my own work, I get a way better job.
Good boating to you.

So you have hydraulic brakes on the trailer? It was a little on the high side, and I assume the trailer was empty? If it wasn't and he had to do it by jacking it up, than it's about right for a boat dealer. it's a 2 man job to bleed the brakes unless that had a pressure bleeder. So all in all they didn't rip you off they are just exp

ensive.

Which is EXACTLY why he can charge those prices then. Next time, I'd advise doing a little homework, then tackling them yourself. If not for the saving money part, then for the self pride of knowing you did something very usefull today, and therefore are afforded a 6-pack.
