Pontoon Boat & Deck Boat Forum

So, while I can't actually use my Toon during this time of year I spend too much time thinking of what I should do once spring hits and I pull off the wrap. I started looking at the Waterglides again. I Know a couple guys on the forum have installed these on their Toons. Just wondering If any of those guys could give us an update on how they are holding up. Especially if you keep the Toon in a slip?

Although I am about to sell mine, I LOVED it.
Sorry to say that it is permanently attached to the boat, so they are going as a package for a project boat.

As far as living at a slip, mine sat in the water all summer for a number of years. When fall came around and it was time to pressure wash, it always came clean much easier than the aluminum tubes. They put a real nice gel coat on that I would wax once in the spring.

I would rate performance at a B+. My boat was just too dang heavy with the wheelhouse and sat a bit low. With a 175HP, it ran 36MPH. With the 115 on, it ran 29. On a lighter boat, I would expect even better performance.

Be prepared to mount it a second time to 'fine tune' it. Makes a big difference. If you have a stock hull that they are familiar with, you might be able to nail it on the first try.

Pricewise, I was dissapointed to see that they jacked it up to over $1600ish, which makes it a little harder to compete against a third log, which I would also seriously consider. Good luck with your upgrades!

Jim, who goes to Canal Days with us has one. He posts here periodically. Not sure how he likes it since I am otherwise preoccupied at Canal Days....

Yea I thought about the trailer issue too. My marina trailers my boat to the lake in the spring and back in the fall. They use a a scissor trailer that slides under the toon in between the logs. I would probably have to get a trailer... Not to mention a bigger motor..This idea is is starting to get expensive. May have to just think about trading her in for a bigger boat.

Sorry, somehow I missed this thread until today.
I have a waterglide and it works great, I am happy with it. I am going to lower it an inch or two this spring, to see if I can coax a little more speed out of it. You always want more speed, especially if you have a gps/ fishfinder on board. "What! only 26.7 mph?? I went 26.9mph last week, I wonder what is wrong!!!!
My best speed, so far, has been 28.2mph. Just me and about half a tank of gas and pontoons that I had just scrubbed. That was a two way test, so I don"t think current or wind had any effect on it. Clean pontoons. I have found, is a big factor is how fast you can go. Just a little bit of muck on them really slows you down.
I would be happy to talk to anyone about it, or if you are near the Chesapeake Bay, take anyone for a ride.
The people at PWG were really nice and I had a great experience with their customer service. I didn't even buy it from them. I bought mine new, but unused, from someone who decided to sell their pontoon before they had time to mount it on their boat. They basically treated me like I had bought it directly from them. They talked to me on the phone a few times, as we figured out the best starting position to mount it to my boat. And then after I tested it suggested lowering it slightly and moving it to the rear about 2 inches. Every boat is a little different, so be prepared to change the mounting location a time or two. It is not real hard to move.

edit: I just looked at their website. Their price has gone up, and they include underskin materials with the waterglide now. I installed my underskin after the waterglide and that made a nicer smoother ride. I would recommend if you were going to install a waterglide to also install underskin.

Thanks for your information. Quick question... When your anchored or not moving does it add buoyancy or does it add more weight thus making the boat sit lower in the water when your not underway?

The waterglide adds more buoyancy to your toon.

oh good, Im concerned about adding more weight.
