All the 50 yrs ive lived on this lake theres more water patrol out than i ever seen, seems alot of younger guys getting trained on the job. Im glad to see em myself because when i got my grandkids on our pontoon just catching a breeze looking at the new homes built during the winter or swiming im glad to know someone is watching for drunks or wild rides in area. These guys do a great job and deserve respect for helping so if you see your patrol wave at em its ok and remember these guys carry guns handcuffs and can arrest right there in the middle of the lake if needed. Mem day weekend here alot boats, seados, ect cover it up and about 80% is good clean honest sober family fun but still got 20% there too, why patrols there and looking out for you. ps you did get that new tag right?

You know, this weekend will be "amateur weekend", and I'm sure there are going to be a lot of people discovering that they are NOT the center of the universe. I support and appreciate the LEO's on the water, and while I've never had an on-water encounter with them, I would be sure to show them nothing but respect and civility. That's a tough job they've got, and I wouldn't want to have them even THINK that I'm "that guy". Holiday weekends, more than any others are weekends to keep a low profile on the water. I know that some people are just incapable of that, but it is what it is.

The perfect reason to stay on 'my' bayou - peace and quiet (except I have to invite her family along this weekend). :biggrin2

You got that right!! Weekends are bad enough by me but Holidays seem to bring out every idiot that owns a boat. I look forward to seeing LE on the water. We always give them a big wave hello & a :thumbsup . By me they are always busy keeping the jet-skiers under control.

In my short years of boating, I've found Memorial Day is the worst day on the lake, when it comes to ignorance...

Everyone got their new boats delivered, whether pontoon, cruise boat, and/or bass boat.... and they're itching to get wet quickly....

I really don't mind that I have to work all this weekend, and miss all that stuff....

The most entertaining thing on this Saturday morning, is to have coffee at the ramp/marina bar, and watch the newbies launching their boats for the first time.... The lake has only one marina (and the dam's park) to launch. The marina is most popular - it has the most parking. It also has only one ramp. The entertaining part? It is a dual ramp, with a tough approach around the marina, then to back down the ramp. It's rather easy if you've experience. It's rather entertaining to watch a newbie try to back into the available side of the ramp, while the other side has a truck/trailer already there... It is NOT fun to watch, while you're in the launch line... waiting for someone ON the ramp, to get their boat ready, when they should have prepped the boat while waiting in line....

You've got that right. I don't mind the newbies so much, I guess everyone has to start out as a beginner. I hate the arrogant newbies who think they know what they're doing when they don't have a clue. At the same time there are plenty of experienced boaters out there that are just as bad

That's why I like to go in the middle of the week, when most people are working, I get to see wild life you don't see with all that noise going on, That's why I don't mind working week ends and nights,so I can have lakes and rivers to myself or with the other responsible people, I stay away from the big weekends for boating.

If you go out, be safe, we don't want to lose members by accident !!!

here at lake Waco they say they are going inspect every boat for zebra muscles before they go into the water. they don't say what is going to happen if any are found.

Everyone was a newbie at one time. It's just that some of us got over it faster than others. Of course there are some that are still newbie idiots for twenty years. I love to sit in line at the ramp and watch yuppies try to back the 18footer down the ramp with the rav4. Times like that I appreciate grampa making me back the farm equipment around the farm. Just for practice cause he was retired an didn't have anything else to do but mow around the buildings. Too bad it's going to be mid 50's this weekend in Iowa. Have to pretend.

Our boat dock is the first one next to the boat ramp. We don't launch our boat on holiday weekends. We just grab a cooler and chair and sit on the dock and watch all the entertainment at the ramp - always a good time (for us anyways). :lol3
