What's the best grill for the money?

Hey Guys, I am ready to go out for my second weekend on the new toon and am thinking about adding a grill. What are your thoughts and experiences with the different brands/models of grills? Any to just stay away from (leak, catch fire, won't stay lit, etc.)?

We've got or bought a Magma Grill http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templ ... stid=69289 and it's at least five years old now and cleans up and cooks like it was brand new yet. We keep it conveniently stowed away in one of the seats out of sight and out of the way until it is needed. I’ve also observed other peoples Magma’s that still cleaned up, functioned and appeared as new also, hence my recommendation here.

There are really two ways to go, a cheapie Chinese stamped steel portable grill from walmart that you will probably have to replace every year or two or an expensive fully stainless steel model that will last as long as you have it! I went with an nice stainless unit that was around $200 and could not be happier, it was recently pulled off a table by a yellow lab who took off after a squirl and his leash caught it. I lost two hotdogs in the accident but the grill did not have a scratch even landing on asphalt... My motto is buy in once and take care of it! Plus, my grill was made right here in the USA! :nana

I've got the Magma Kettle. Same brand as Bambi's, but smaller and less expensive. I bought it a couple weeks ago and just put it together last weekend. It was a BITCH to put together. I don't know why, I just had a hard time with it. The instructions were complete shit, too. Once I put it together, I realized it probably should have been a lot easier than I made it, but oh well.

That said, it seems to be a pretty high quality and sturdy product, and I'll be fastening it to the boat tomorrow and trying it out this weekend. I'll be happy to report back my findings on Monday.

It is expensive, though. After spending $150+ on the grill, you'll spend another $50 on the mount, and that doesn't even come with fasteners. You'll need to go to your local hardware store and get some stainless steel machine screws, nuts and washers before you can install the mount (their length depends on the depth of your rail).

Good luck finding what you're looking for. A marine grill is something I knew I wanted long before I even bought my boat. It took me a while to get it because I wanted to invest some money into getting something nice, that like Mike said, I'd buy once and take care of for life.

The price of the marine specific grills was a big turnoff for me, the full size grill at my house didnt even cost that much. After making the mount for my Walmart grill and having used it plenty of times, I wouldn't change a thing and I would absolutely buy the same grill again.

It does not have an onboard igniter but the aim-n-flame works fine. There is an adjuatable regulator that works well and does its job.

Dont get me wrong I'd love to have a Magma but I just couldn't see spending what they cost on a little grill. :nana

Thanks for all the great info. I would like to go the magma route but I may have to wait a few months. I could use the cheaper one for this summer and ask Santa for the nice one.
You guys are great! Thanks.

I just installed a Magma party size kettle grill and oven. I have used it twice and love it. Last weekend i had 4 hamburgers and 5 brats cooking and there was still room for more. The grilled food seems to taste even better on the water. :drool

Those Johnsonville beer brats are a favorite of mine and the guys I tie up with. Nothing better than downing a great brat with a corona in a floaty chair!!

Thanks pelicantooner. I see you have a Misty Harbor. How do you like it? Any problems likes/dislikes. As you can tell I just bought a 22ft Biscayne Bay by Misty Harbor about a week ago. So far I love it. Just like to hear your thoughts. I don't see a lot of reviews on them.

I'll second that Ross, it is going to be hot this weekend. Can't wait to get in/on the water.

I really like the Misty Harbor pontoon. The price I thought was good and the quality has also been good. I was also looking at Bennington when we bought this one, and the only difference in the 2 I was comparing was the Bennington had a built in trash receptacle. The price also was 8 - 10 grand higher. My gas gauge always shows full, and I had the dealer fix it and it worked fine until i filled it up and now it stays on full again after 2 weekends on the lake I dont think its full.
