Environmentally safe pontoon cleaning

I keep my boat docked in the water so I don't get many opportunities to clean the aluminum pontoons. Does anyone know of a product that is safe to use while a boat is in the water?

Good idea, but I should have been more specific. The part of the pontoon that is underwater is coated with antifouling paint, and it is pretty clean. The part that I want to shine up is the upper section which is above water.

Now if were a lib I'll tell you to jump in with the buffer plugged in and shine it up, but since your a conservative in training, then don't do that!!!

Sitting in the water you don't many choices except by hand or air tools.

Call one of our friends in the frozen north and have them send you one of those 7" wide Lexan ice scrapers. Boil a pan of water, put the working end of the scraper in it, then, with a heavy glove, form it to the shape of your pontoon by pressing it on the tube (holding it at a good working angle). You end up with the perfect scraper to knock off the fouling. It works great on barnacles, moss or those little mussels.

I would avoid anything as aggressive as steel wool or Scotch Brite on your bottom paint.
