Memorial Day plans

#1 Post by biggerstaff » Thu May 26, 2011 6:13 am

I am suprised no one has brought this up as of yet , what are your Memorial Day weekend plans ? To a lot of people this kicks off the traditional boating season ! I remember from last year someone posted that they take there lawn chairs to the boat ramp and watch the boat launching circus . Myself , I am hoping to join the crazies out on the water and do some 12 oz curls !

Going offshore about 60 miles for mahi and tuna, come back, grill some fresh fish. Sunday, chill until late afternoon, then join friends for his birthday party. A beach music band "The Band of Oz" will play until 11pm. Monday, chill, clean up and head back home to get ready for work.

FWIW: We'll float in the cove and listen :drink4 :drink4 :drink4 . The beer is cheaper and we don't have to mess with Eufaula's DUI fundraising campaign put on my the local P.D. and reinforcements. :eviltaunt

Be careful you Okies as BUI is the same as a DUI now.

Tenkiller is in flood again plus dirty, and unsafe to swim in with all the flooded park outhouses in campgrounds.
Guess our group will sit around a fire here at the house and toast the weekend.

I HATE to be on the water during these weekends. Too many nuts, cops, etc. I might slip out Friday or Sat night after dark ad do some catfish noodlin though. I opted to work on Monday, so I get a comp day some time in June.

I'm not able to do anything but sit around the campfire in my backyard right now. I am going to our Campground (Membership Only) on Wednesday evening the 1st of June. That's the day I have my pre-op too. Then it's Taco night at a local bar where everyone congregates. Then I will bring my Friends pontoon trailer home. The 2nd of June I am scheduled for Back Surgery again. From there it will be recovery, then load the pontoon. I hope by the end of June to be able to put the boat in the water and take our Fifth Wheel to the Campground. Friends will help me launch the boat and set up our trailer. I can continue to recover there for three weeks. ON THE BOAT I HOPE! I'll have to have help loading the Pontoon at home and launching at the ramp I'm sure. Hope everyone has a safe and great weekend over the Holiday.

Yep get a lot of rookie boaters on Memorial day. 4th of july and Labor Day. Rookies plus about a 12 pack can really be dangerous. Seems the boat traffic is not as heavy this year as in the past. Maybe fuel cost related. Drive defensively and everyone stay safe.

Our good friends that we normally go out to the lake with ( that have the '76 Mastercraft stars & stripes edition ) are members of the small county lake's ski club. Their boat is always used for ski shows & pracites, so they'll be pulling the show skiiers as they jump over the ramp. Since they are members, they can camp @ the lake on Mem. day weekend, and we will probably join them for at least 1 day/night. I don't like taking our toon there much with them, as the lake is only about 160 acres, and there are no real "coves" to sit in, but it's fun for just some cruising, and the occasional earlly morning ski/wake board trip. The water in that lake is usually about 10* warmer than anything around, so it feels pretty good this time of year.

The other two days I'm sure we will take our boat out to our usual lake Perry. I don't like the crowdedness either, but that lake is far big enough to find our own spot, and I don't want to waste what will be a great weekend weather wise just because there are more people there.

Working, the shops close at 5 pm on Sunday and on Memorial day, so we can get the floors done in 10 shops easy in those two days, leaving only 18 to do at 3 a day so we can get done in 8 days instead of 10.

July is coming up so we have to get stuff ready to go sale fireworks to support the Family reunion show and I'm making a few of the big bangs to add to the show, also got some roman candles for the show, since I can now buy some professional supplies now, one four tube candle is OK, but you fire off 5 or more at the same time, it can be used early in the show.

I ordered 5 pounds of cannon powder so I can launch some shells I'm making, I plan on finishing with 3- 2 1/2 x2 1/2 cylinder shells half filled with flash, to shake the ground with the last of the cakes going off.

mmmm I can smell the smoke already.

Put boat in last weekend in preparation for this weekend. Will cruise the lake and swim/wade with grand daughter, maybe fish a little in evening. We have lots of nice quiet coves to anchor in and enjoy some cold ones and get sun burned, LOL. Won't go near the ramps and get run over by dumb butts with first timers or rentals. Everybody have a great weekend and be safe out there! :thumbsup

I was thinking about you yesterday and was wondering how you were doing. Glad your surgery is over. Now you just have to take it easy so everything can heal. It took me about 2 1/2 months from the first surgery. This next one is suppose to be much easier on me. Ha! I'll just wait and see.
