Re: sad day
The Mid South was mid 80's today, I took a 1 hr. ride before putting my boat on the trailer. I think it's the last of the 80's, with temps dropping to highs in 60's and lows in the low 40's.
I pulled the boat for the 20 hour oil change and lower unit grease change. I'm going to get my Fitz polishing wheel going on an electric drill and see if I can polish the toons without too much elbow grease. Those toons flat put out the black on rags. I may need more rags and some lacquer cleaner to do the job efficiently. Then, Sharkhide.

Re: sad day
Start a weeks vacation today ( saturday ) have my 80 y.o. dad in town from st. louis and my son and daughter in law are driving up to shreveport to spend the weekend with us and thier grandpa... the plan WAS to put my toon in the lake and take leisurely hour and a half cruise to east texas and visit a well known lake side restaurant... but NOOOOOOOO weather man says our usual temps of mid 80's this time of year in Louisiana will actually be in the mid 60's with a fair chance for rain both days this weekend.... there goes the boat ride.... maybe later in the week when the temps are supposed to go back up in the 80;s... Not how i wanted to start my vacation... but hey, it still beats the hell out of going to work....

Hmmph
Woke up to about 4 inches of that fluffy white stuff and 22 degrees. Very pretty, except when you are not yet winterized.

Used to go to a place just outside of Fredrick, MD called the Jug Bridge Inn. On Monday nights it was all the crabs you could eat for some ridiculously low price. They'd start with a dozen and keep going until you hollered Uncle. Steamed and then covered with Old Bay, mmmm.
That's where I taught a couple of my business associates they needed to wash their hands before they took a leak.

This guy was a commercial crabber who used to sell his catch to restaurants. He opened up his own place and his business is booming. This was his 4th season open.

I haven't had a decent crab since I lived on Kent Island. Every time I go in a place and see they're advertising 'Maryland-style blue crab' I want to whip somebody's ass, 'cause I know they're nowhere close.

Re: sad day
Yeah I've had blue crab in every state from Maine to Florida. It's Maryland crabs from Maryland that tastes the best. Most people think that it's because the bay is an estuary and the mix of salt/fresh water adds to the taste of blue crab. Oysters from the Chesapeake and Pamlico Sound in NC are the better than anywhere else.

Bama use paper towel on removing the black residue. I just keep the garage stocked from Sam's with them. Not too costly when you buy the multi packs.........

Re: sad day
Couldn't live up north, I was out both Sat and Sunday and I'm waiting for the COLD weather to hit. The colder the better for giant catfish. The only time I wont go is when the ice gets too thick to break it at the ramp, otherwise, Im busting it all the way to the main channel. FYI, there has only been a time or two in 50 years here it got that cold for that long.
