New to the Pontoon world

#1 Post by ToonIN CT » Thu Mar 10, 2011 8:56 pm

Howdy all........My name is Jay,new to pontoonmania and new to boating all together. Never owned a boat until recently, I have always wanted a boat and a pontoon fits our laid back, take life as it is attitude. 30yr old married man, with a wonderful wife, high school sweet heart!!(lucky me) LOL :drink4 :drink4. For the past ten years I have worked for the "world leader in security" (any guesses),as a technician. My wife,is a registered dietitian (the only one I know that will drink a case of beer a week and light up a cig!!) Some how she is still a string bean!!!

No kids...yet.....Were docking at Candlewood Lake and really wanna have a fun summer on the water..I`m also a lawn nut, belong to a lawn forum where we talk about Kentucky bluegrass to the point we have it sent to the lab for analysts, dont get me going on soil tests,LOL ! I`m looking forward to learning from everyone here as I will have a lot of questions as I move along. I wanna say thank you to everyone it advance for anyone that has to figure out my "dyslectic typing"!! What the hell,I went to a technical high school!!!

Almost forgot to tell ya what we have, being our first toon we didnt` go all new, we bought a 2002 22ft Sweetwater 220SRE Pontoon with a 50hp 4 stroke Yamaha. Pontoon is in really great shape, docking fees are on the high end from what I have been reading.we pay $2400.00 a year just for the slip(no elec). Sense we bought the toon from a dealer,he gave us the slip this year, winterizing of the motor, shrink wrap and winter storage at the marina included in our price of the toon. We paid just under13K

Welcome aboard..

Lawn nut ?? and there's a lawn forum that people gather to talk about lawns ??, I am ripping my lawn out so I don't have to mow and weed eat the damn thing anymore, got freaking tried of it week after week, going desert landscape since we live in Vegas and a water shortage, can't wait till I am finished than I am donating my lawn mower and weed eater, won't miss the damn things either or my freaking high water bill..

[ I suspect your falling out of your chair reading this :hairpull ]

Happy Tooning..

Welcome Jay.

#1 Lifelock?

#2 Congrats on the high school sweetheart. However, if you will get off those lawn forums, you might have time to take care of that childless problem your talking about.

#3 Congrats on the pontoon. Wishing you and yours many hours/days, heck years of happy boating. This I say in total seriousness.

First off welcome to the group... this is really a sensational group with an unlimited knowledge base when it comes to toons. You said you were not just new to tooning, but new to boating... that was me just a year ago ( 54 years old and never even owned a jon boat until I bought our pontoon ) and I can tell you the help i've received from the people on this forum has been outstanding. About a month or two into my first season of boating I was about to chunk it all in over frustation with loading our toon onto the trailer. Silly as it sounds, these guys talked me thru it, gave me some great tips and with a little practice it got easier. Not to mention I learn something about toons and boating in general from these guys almost on a weekly basis... since you're in a slip trailering wont be an issue for you but if you have any questions at all, just jump in... someone here will likely have an answer for you... congrats on the new boat....

Awesome! Glad you will now be able to get out on the boat. Any pics of the ol gal? The boat, not the wife! (well, her too if you have the camera out) :lol3

My fist suggestion is to practice, practice, practice docking your rig. Take some floats out and sucure them in open water, and then practice aproaching them wthout running them over. Try manuveraing around a little so you can get the feel of the motor control, etc. You need you know at what point the boat will ease forward, or jerk forward. Good luck! :alright :alright :alright

Glad to have you, sounds like you got a great deal!

Now the big question, should I be watering my lawn in the morning or at night? One big water or several small ones? I have been told so many things by so many "professionals" and they are different! :happy

Welcome aboard. Lawn Nut. When we had our house built in 2000 I seriously thought and checked into having our yard Astro turfed. Too expensive to do, but on the plus side I wouldn't have needed a mower, sprinkler system and wouldn't have high water bills in the summer just to keep it green and growing so I could keep it mowed. Get the picture? :drink4 :drink4 Pepsi

Enjoy your boating class. If you have to sit in school that is about as good as it gets.

Here is a pic of my other baby. It's Ultimate Flora Zoysia...put it down last year...pretty rare in Florida I hear...I just moved to the state in '08
