One more for today's laughs.

10-3-11
When we were walking out of church yesterday the wife asked me if I would take her fishing...heck yea, who is gonna turn that down???
We decided to let Tim, Caleb and Valleri tag along as well.
I forgot to grab some skipjack for bait, so picked up the ol stand-by, chicken breast.
We got on the water about 4:30ish and we started drifting. Flow was around 25k so I figured the bite would really be hot...It was not. We struggled badly for about an hour picking up one channel cat. I saw some bait down river on the sonar and netted up some really big threadfins. That BARELY helped the cause. We were still struggling when Sam showed up about 6:30 to show me up. Right on cue the bite picks up when the "river-master" Sam made his appearance, and we had a pretty good evening after that point. One big smallie pushing 4 lbs, more than a dozen mixed catfish, a couple white bass, lost one smallie at the boat, landed two striped bass pushing 10 lbs, and a dozen or more skipjack. At least half the fish came on Carolina rigged foley spoons after we ran through the bait. Shockingly, the stripers, whites and most of the skipjack came after dark. Everybody caught fish in the end, so it turned out to be a really good evening.

Damage report:
First:
While in drift rotation with Sam, I saw he had TWO rods hooked up and I hollered out that the bum deserved it! Ooops, should not have done that as less than 5 seconds later while he was trying to put one down and step on it, it went overboard.....the fish he caught on the other was a drum. LOL Sorry Sam. For some reason he calls me a jinx...go figure.

Second:
After getting my reverse gears re-cut last week, I had a feeling it wasn't going to fix the problem. I was right, essentially loosing reverse again. I am seriously bummed out about this.

Third:
While backing the boat into the driveway, I somehow, in the dark, bashed in the side of my Honda Accord. Son of a!!!

As expensive as this was, its hard to laugh. I was going out on lake Mi with my brother on his boat,(42' fountain) his trailor, as is with most boats like this, the trailor actually sticks out about 5' behind the boat, and has a hinged gate, I think it helps prevent damage to lower units, and props if you back into something, or get rear ended. We had his boat in, put truck and trailor into lot. We didnt notice as the guy in the next ramp, had the same trailor setup, but didnt open the gate, as he tried to back off the trailor, the props hit that bar, destroying 2 $6500 props, and both lower units. That had to suck.JT

I found it VERY difficult to start the engine without the little plastic key inserted into the engine stop "deadman" switch.

This would of course happen the very first time I ever put my boat in the water. :paranoid

"Damn, it fired right up at home!??!??!" :censored

I'm not going to even wait, I'll just go ahead and give myself a kick in the nuts for that one! :nutkick

Howdy Bps- did you kill the buoy at Harbor Town in Belmont? I hope you didn't go out today with the tornado warnings and 45 mpg wind gusts.

I'm at Lake Wylie Marina, and the buoy was as you enter the marina. I had gotten up to put the fenders out. I thought I had plenty of room, but was windy, and apparently was blown over the buoy. Planning on going out on buoy patrol tomorrow with a couple of daughters, SIL and granddaughter. Today was WAAAYYY too windy with the tornado warning. Hope to see you guys out.

When I first dropped my boat in after rigging my new Yamaha I couldn't find the key. I looked in, on and around the console in the tool box and in the truck. I walked home and tore up the garage then I walked back to the ramp, looking along the road. I knew I had seen that key, I was tripping over it the whole time I was rigging the boat. When I got back to the boat, my wife was holding it up. It was snapped to the end of the dead man lanyard, hanging on the controller.
