that's a good idea... the vinyl fence post could be split, leaving the sides to wrap over the edges of the wood, to allow for screws...

Exactly a 10' post covers a 20' bunk.

Ron, try liquid rollers... it's a product you spray directly on your carpeted bunks....Won't hurt to try it and I believe you can buy it at bass pro..... I actually bought a can last summer, but the water levels dropped so quickly here because of the extreme heat and lack of rain, I never really got the chance to try the liquid rollers... google it...you'll see alot of reviews on it...

If you get the UV stabilized UHMW it should not be a problem. I have friends in Arizona and New Mexico that have it on their telescopes for bearing material for at least 20 years. I'm not sure that my bunks ever see the sun except when it's sitting in the marina while we're on the lake. UHMW is pretty awesome stuff.

Guys, believe me I'm in as far as I can go...

You've got to understand that my 28 foot Tritoon has more surface area and thereby more friction than a regular dual log boat - and also weighs in at almost 4,000 lbs - so there is a LOT of pressure on the bunks when trying to drag it on. Easily double what a "standard" toon would be.

Back to my original question though - what slippery stuff have you tried that worked? I'm not interested in investing money in UHMW plastic (which degrades in about a year or two in our intense UV sunlight and bone dry air here in Arizona) or other expensive ad ons. I'm sure they're wonderful, but just not for me since I'm a really cheap bastard at heart.

I actually like the bunks having *some* friction - just not when I'm trying to load. That's why I thought the Dawn would work well. Once dry it should not be slippery...

How about some Slime or vegetable oil? Someone has GOT to have tried something that works well.

A-lot of great ideas I'm setting here wondering if composed decking material "TIMBERTECH" would
work I'm sure you can get it in 2x4, may be pricey but it would be a one time fix???

I think I may have found THE answer...

Home depot has some resin composite "pickets" for a fence, they come in two sizes. The smaller size would fit perfectly over the existing 2X4's. They're six feet tall and $2.79 EACH, so very inexpensive. The best way to mount them would be with purpose designed deck screws, just slightly countersunk. Deck screws are designed to go through the composite and fasten to wood. Since they have a surface embossed grain I think they may have just enough grip, yet still allow the logs to slide easily versus carpet.

I did make a gate for my back yard out of them, although these are the wider slats. I used drywall screws here, not countersunk. Not bad looking for PLASTIC!

Those pickets look like your ticket. It really is amazing how much easier it is to launch and load with ours. Best improvement i've made so far. Enjoy.
