Somebody made me an offer I couldn't refuse on a brand new 5.5KW Briggs. It would not be my first choice but for $300 I couldn't pass it up.
I have put the lock out in my main panel so I can supply the whole house but, obviously, I need to do a lot of load management. It should keep the fridges going and the well. At night it should run the mini split in the bedroom. I think we will be OK.

How much noise does an average generator make? I know the Honda's run very quite, but they might be out of my budget for the moment (lots of x-mas presents to buy).

If it's anywhere near the noise my pressure washer makes I think I would be embarrased to cruise down the canal's with it running.

Generators with Briggs or Kohler engines tend to be loud as hell, Subaru, Honda, etc. pretty quiet.

A Briggs is like a lawn tractor but I have it set on the other side of the garage.
If FPL is out it will be a sound of comfort tho.

I wouldn't care about the noise for home use if the power was out, but I don't want to make a fool of myself in the parade. My powerwasher is a 6.5 Briggs and Straton. It almost made be deaf after powerwashing my fence.

I'm leaning towards an inverter now, or just watching from the dock.

Or convert them to 12 volt

I was thinking about that too. I have two dock lights on the bow that are busted, but the wiring is good. Can I just splice those wires into some 12V lights?

Yep. I have LED rope lights on the party cruiser. I just tapped into the existing courtesy light harness.

Is this a pretty big shindig..? Or for the local properties only..?
If someone like me was to come out for the parade, would the golf course area be the place to go..? Or are outsiders shunned..?
And I've got a 400 watt inverter with two 120 outlets if it'll help. You're welcome to it. I know it will run a blender for margarita's. (wink..wink).

Welcom back to Florida. Looks like you have flown south for the winter again. The boat parade is actually pretty small compared to some of the other shows in the area. Last year there was only about a dozen boats. As far as I know it's not meant to be exclusively for the residents. The problem is that there aren't really any good places to view the main canal unless you live on the water. I don't think they go on any side canal's so the golf course probably wouldn't give you a good view.

Thanks for the offer to borrow your invereter. Unfortunatley, due to my lack of preperation the wife and I have made plans to attend her office christmas dinner which is scheduled on the night of the parade. I'm so excited to eat at Carabbbas (sarcasm  ). Maybe next year I'll get my act together before it's too late.

Ron, sorry buddy I didn't see the post till too late. I went to the parade on the Cotee river to see what they were doing in prep for next year. Most of the tooners were running small generators. I think thats what I'm going to do next year.
