pontoon sides
Hello,
I have the standard fiberglass pontoon sides. I have already removed the rotted out wood and replaced it with it kept in with fiberglass. It stiffened it up nice. I now need to cover it from the inside? Any suggestions for what to use? I would like something that will never need replacing, like a composite sheet of something white. Not sure where to get it though. Originally it was plywood with a fabric cover. It rotted away at least once maybe twice before I got the boat.
Thanks for any input.

What about that stuff made for bathrooms, that you can get in 4' x 8' sheets @ Lowe's / Home Depot ???
MIght be worth a shot. It's thin, and therefore could take a descent bent, but is made to repel water. Not sure if water proof. like this... http://www.homedepot.com/Building-Mater ... ogId=10053

Re: pontoon sides
Since this is the fourth pontoon that I own, and three of them have the same sides I would guess that this is the standard type of sides that are fiberglass. All three are different manufacturers but use the same type of fiberglass sides.
Something thicker than the .090 flimsy stuff would be needed.

Wow...
What year are those things? 70's?
Also, flat bottoms on the toons...
Cool looking!

Middle to late 80's. Most aluminum toons will be rusted out before these get another decking.
The toons are somewhat "D" shaped. They also have a stringer up the bottom for times when they hit the ground.

yeah and I get some comment that I must be smoking something.
I honestly would never buy an aluminum toon after seeing some that are ten years old and then seeing some fiberglass ones.

Re: pontoon sides
The PC cabin is made from foam core laminate, same stuff that is used in sun rooms and RVs. I believe Lowes or Home Depot carries it. That would work for you....

Re: pontoon sides
Aluminum does not rust. Only steel or iron rusts. Aluminum will create Aluminum Oxide which is stronger than aluminum and appears as a whiteish color. That’s why they last so long. There are aluminum toons out there made back in the 50's that are just fine. Fiberglass is a good product but much heavier than aluminum which is why most pontoon boats are made out of the stuff.

I'll try to be more to the point with my comments about standard fiberglass sides next time.
