Greetings, everyone!
I ran across the forum while looking for info on my mom's 'toon, which was part of her purchase of a travel trailer parked at Lake Loramie in Minster, OH. She appointed me captain and mechanic, so I'm sure I'll be posting a lot of questions here. And as it says in my sig, it's only fair that I offer up something in return, so as a lifetime geek, you can ask me anything computer-related and I'll at least try to give you a more thoughtful answer than the pimple-faced kid at Best Buy can conjure up.
Pics will come soon. My sons spent many a formative weekend up on Loramie with me, my mom and my uncle (also a tooner - is that a proper term?), and now that she's bought back in, we're going to be prepping for the next generation.
I'm a big fan of forums because of the wealth of info, the camraderie (and occasional catfight), and the feeling of getting a group of friends together and shooting... whatever it is one shoots. I think it's gonna be a good stay.
The first project is certainly going to be familiarizing myself with the controls; as US Marine is supposedly long gone in the bowels of Merc nee Chrysler, I'll probably resort to posting pics and asking, "What's this thing do?" Over the winter or next spring, I'm thinking mom is going to have the motor thoroughly serviced, which I'm guessing should be project #1 on any used boat purchase.
Later on, if time/budget/patience permits, I'd like to re-do the DC electrical system. Three of the 4 gauges on the cluster aren't working: RPM does, battery is not connected, there's no pitot for the speedo, and the fuel tank has no sender for the gas gauge. I'd like to get those as squared up as possible (volts being easiest). A radio would be a nice addition, as would an AC inverter (lest I get too ambitious). And finally, I'd like to get rid of whatever green plant life is growing in the deck carpet.
Thanks a bunch in advance for your advice and patience. I'm looking forward to sailing with you all on here.

Re: New guy in Ohio...
Welcome! You are absolutely 100% correct. You can get an answer to just about anything dealing with boats and pontoons specifically.
You didn't say if the motor was 2 or 4 stroke, but I'm betting it's two stroke. Not a lot to go wrong unless it wasn't maintained by the previous owner. Get rid of the old fuel, check the hoses to make sure they're not cracked or mushy feeling. If there is a fuel-water separator, have it changed out. Same for the lower unit fluid and impeller.
I'm sure others will be happy to weigh in.
Happy boating!!
