Newbie from SoCal!!

#1 Post by SoCalAngler » Fri Sep 28, 2012 7:26 pm

Hello all--

I'm from the So Cal area and interested in tooning. I am long time boater (sailboats and fishing boats...salt and fresh). Never owned a pontoon boat.

Looks like a great site to learn all about Toons!!

I'll post in the appropriate forum for advice on purchasing a toon.

Thanks!!

SCA: We bought an 06 Sun Tracker "Sig" series.

As far as I can guess (by use questions to the first/PO) it probably has 600-700 hours on a 75 HP 2S Merc and came with an enclosure. It was $15K which was about what I was finding equivalent models on the west coast for.

It's still in OR and can be see on eBay here:

My friend has a boat repair shop at Havasu Springs Resort there above Parker where he said he can do a 'once over" on the engine and repair the engine rudder.

We didn't want to spend too much on a boat, and we may put a 4S on depending... We're going to use it for a camper mostly. See post here: viewtopic.php?f=10&t=14305

Nice toon Rob! That camper cover will work great. The dual axle trailer is well worth it on long trips.

I wouldn't put the 4stroke on right away, unless the 75 poops out. You will just need to add a gal of oil to your list.b

Texa Toon: Yea... We have more in mind for minor upgrades at the moment. The Merc will get us to where we will need a trolling motor first thing.. Having access to the primary mechanic at the boat shop will be a big advantage.

SCA: Here's a pretty nice ride right out by you. http://inlandempire.craigslist.org/boa/3231572718.html
