New to the forum

#1 Post by Darin » Mon Dec 03, 2012 5:13 pm

Hi all! I just got up and running on the forum. Thanks Herb!

Just a little about myself, I am from NW Arkansas and live out by Beaver lake (if anyone knows where that is). I'm mid 40's and got my first bass boat when I was 19 then bought a ski boat at 21 then a cuddy at 25. I have never owned a pontoon but have driven several of them. This past summer, my wife and I took out my neighbors 28' toon and... well... the Harley went bye bye and the wife said "I want a toon of my own now!" So I'm in the market. When I sold my cuddy, the wife wanted to get back into racing jet skis so we done that but got out of that once she reached her goal which was winning a regional championship and finishing top 10 at the world finals at Havasu. In '01 she was #1 in region 5 and 9th overall at World finals in women's standup. We realized how much we missed the water after taking out the neighbors boat so we decided to get back into it. I have looked at several and have liked a lot but just don't want to turn loose of the money. But I imagine that we will take the plunge sometime after Christmas. Im sure this forum will help me find things out that I may need to.

Beaver Lake no of Fayetteville is a great striper fishing lake.
I don't know how that 28 ft toon was powered but based on your wife's need for speed, I would bet you need at least a 150 if not more. Lets us know what you are looking at and you will get lots a real life opinions?
Good luck and welcome to the party? I think we have a couple of members that toon on Beaver Lake.

Welcome. You've got a bunch of great lakes to the north and the east along the MO state line.

I used to work for a week every couple of months in Rogers and Fayetteville. It's hard to believe your two counties have 400,000 people. Walmart and Tyson have been kind to your economy.

Actually HER need for speed has subsided. She is happy to just cruise around and have room to relax. I, on the other hand, want a "go fast" but several years ago I wanted a Harley and she wanted a toon. I won out that time and got the Harley. Now that, that is out of my system, I guess its her turn. My niece and her husband has a 24' Riviera Cruiser toon with a 90 rude that they completely redone a couple years ago and they are wanting to sell so I may pick that up.

Thanks for the welcome!

The end of the Summer in the speed trials at Lake of The Ozarks, a Playcraft tritoon with three Mercury Racing 300 Pro XS engines went through the radar traps @ 107 mph in a standing mile. The boat's nose was about 15' off the water when he backed off. Maybe you need to be looking for one of those boats for your wife.

Welcome...

I know nothing about your area, but I've heard of people attending boat shows to see what's available.

Around here, boat shows are in the winter. Different dealers/manufacturers bring their boats for display/bragging/deals.

Lots of people 'knock' pontoon boats... until they've compared them to v hulls, especially when taking family and friends along for a full day on the water.

I'm yet to regret purchasing mine.... sure, i wish i could have afforded a lot more features....

I have seen the videos of that tri. It is insane! I have been to Lake of the Ozarks but not to the shootout. My brother inlaw goes from time to time and my neighbor goes. Since Im back into boating, maybe I can make it up there.

Also, I have to wonder what they have done to beef up that transom or how long that transom will last with that much weight and 900hp ripping and tearing with each gouge of the throttle.
