count your lucky stars and stay in the channel from now on.
or go to lakes more than rivers, less chance of prop strikes.

also, get a manual for your sterndrive and read it. dropping
the lower unit is easy and replacing the seals and water
pick up pump aren't hard. in the future, you could replace
all the seals for about 5 bucks. i realize you wanted to have
a pro look at it this time (and i agree with that), but it helps
to learn all you can about your systems. if you ever lose a
seal while on a week's vacation, you can take a morning and
fix it yourself.
