Anchor, winch and line
Ok,
I need to invest in a new anchor system. My boat is small enough the way it is and I need to save as much space as possible.
What are you guys using?
I'm thinking of something like this, http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templ ... ISO-8859-1

Re: Anchor, winch and line
I use a plastic milk crate. Coil line and lay anchor on top. I had those on a bass boat and IMO they aren't worth a damn. Don't hold much line and can't use a heavy anchor

Re: Anchor, winch and line
I tried that but I use a big river anchor and no matter how careful I am to coil it I end up with a big rats nest. I thought about a retractable hose reel and something like a prusik loop to lock it off. I found a thick piece of PVC pipe to stow the anchor shaft, now to find the retractable reel...

Re: Anchor, winch and line
i've got the electric version sitting in my garage somewhere.
never bothered putting it on the boat. my anchor's too big.
the small anchors don't hold the 28' toon worth a damn.
that reminds me, i need to get out the angle grinder and cut
the long pins off, the ones that stick way out on the sides of
the anchor. those things want to tear up my vinyl. from what
i've seen on this anchor, the hinged points do most of the
anchoring. i guess i'll find out.

Re: Anchor, winch and line
I keep my main anchor in the back with the rope and chain wrapped around a seat post that sticks up... My second anchor (mushroom) that keeps the toon from swinging goes under the rear bench seat in the livewell that holds all my other crap (extra oil, prop etc..)

Re: Anchor, winch and line
I have never had a problem with anchors or anchor ropes. I use 150' of 1/2" double braded line. It will not get tangled up and I keep it under the front seat. The anchor is attached to the front rail with a anchor holder that I bought at Boat U.S. it just hooks in and hangs down the front fence. I have not gotten the boat out of storage yet due to some problems with the lack of water to clean it, and a powerline hanging too low to get it to another location on the trailer. I am working on this right now and will post some pictures. This is the best setup I have seen for a pontoon and have used it for years on two other boats.

Re: Anchor, winch and line
I have 2 of these anchors: http://www.richteranchors.com/

I have the 25 pound ones.
We now call these our 'super hero anchors'.
I think 2 of them would hold us in a Hurricane!
I just coil up the rope.
Ya its manual, but it works for us...
Just toss em out there and crack a beer!
I also have a 15 pound river anchor for backup... or to keep from pivoting if only using 1 of my Super Hero anchors....

Re: Anchor, winch and line
Hey jimrs,
I/2 inch double braid should be good for close to 10,000 lbs. You aint messin around!
Thanks for the idea, I'm a tree guy by trade and I have about 75 ft of it, I just thought something water proof would be more of an advantage, (don't ask me why)

Yup flote,
That's the anchor I'm using. The river gets a bit fast at times and thats the only one that will hold me.
So I'm thinkin i'll go with the milk crate idea and a holder of some sorts to keep the the anchor off the floor, I got some ideas and will post some pics when I finish it.

It's a left over from our 23ft Sea Ray we used to boat in the Gulf and needed it out there. I have had the same anchor and rode for over 15 years.

Re: Anchor, winch and line
We use the digger on a muddy bottom and it holds my toon and one tied to us with a day room also in 20 mph winds. Keep it coiled up in a 5 gallon bucket that doubles for a redneck porta pottie when the waters to cold.

Re: Anchor, winch and line
Anyone tried a box anchor? My old Fortress anchor went bye bye when I sold the deckboat (it had an anchor locker). Not sure if I want to give up storage for a fluked anchor or one that has all those barbs sticking out.
