"The Black Pearl" COMPLETE REBUILD
I bought this 1988 Aqua Patio/Godfrey 24' pontoon in January of this year (2013)... Had extreme hopes of having it complete & on the water in May, June, July, August and so forth... Now realistic idea of having it complete by May 2014 may be the way to go!
Upgrades/new items:
decking
carpet
seat wood
vinyl
foam
refinished helm
satin black powder coated rails & pontoons
satin black paint on all other aluminum & railing
new stainless steel bolts & hardware throughout
Items to be finished prior to maiden voyage:
new black bimini top
Jolly Roger flag
blue decals "The Black Pearl" on both sides
Alpine 6" speakers & head unit (marine grade)
wiring harness
captain seat
2 fishing seats
7' inground pool slide
NEW float on style trailer
85 hp Johnson & all controls
lighting
It has sure been a trip so far. The neighbors have all stopped and commented in every fashion you could imagine by some redneck refinishing a pontoon in his suburban driveway!

85 Johnson. I picked up a 250$ runabout in which i took the motor off of to be on the pontoon... traded the boat without motor and controls for 2 stainless steel props... worth about 300
Re: "The Black Pearl" COMPLETE REBUILD
you must live in the north. All that black would just burn you like crazy here in the Florida sun
This Is just another of my many obsessions in which a vacuum is created in my wallet

Yea. Central Indiana... It gets extremely humid here. The last week has been in the upper 90s with the heat index... regular summer for us here, just not as long a summer as Florida.. 6 months max

Looking forward to watching this continue. I'm on the same timeline. Winter build for next summer use. Where at in Indiana? I'm around Lafayette and plan to mainly boat on Lake Freeman, but will probably travel to Raccoon Lake as well occasionally.

Re: "The Black Pearl" COMPLETE REBUILD
Thanks Curtis.
@fergus... We live in Nineveh which is south of Greenwood 25 miles... Between Columbus and greenwood actually. It will primarily be used on Monroe Reservoir in Bloomington. I have never owned a boat of any sort. I have built many show quality trucks and cars, but never a boat! And never have I even thought about an attempt at upholstery until I priced out pontoon furniture and rework on upholstery! Holy crap, expensive stuff... I have just over 1k in the boat right now considering all the bartering and trading up I have done... when I finish, I plan to have "net" of 2800 in the boat... should be a 7-9k boat when done...

This is a rendering of the decals that are going to be on each side.. will have a few blue stripes here and there, but for the most part will be all satin black... goin for the ghost ride feel... rat rod feel...
Re: "The Black Pearl" COMPLETE REBUILD
Hope its not too sunny where you live. Several years ago I painted a jet boat I had black. It lasted one season and I repainted it over the winter. That thing was miserable hot! You couldn't even stand on the front of it without shoes on. You could see the heat coming off that thing. It did look good but never again will I have a black boat. Good work tho!

Yea, it will be hot for sure. Although I will say with it being aluminum and having worked on it over this summer, the metal doesnt get as hot as you would think... Ive worked on it during some 100 degree days. (Still trying to justify it as you can see)... it will be exactly what I had in mind when it is done. At which time, i can decide if its worthy of two seasons or not
