Recommendation for a fish finder/ GPS combo

Hello all! So, I just put the order in for a brand new 2010 Bentley 243 Tritoon and am now looking for a fishfinder/GPS combo unit. I have an idea what I am looking for but after speaking with the dealer, I'm a little leary on the sizing of the unit for placement on the dash. He warned not to go too big because it would obstruct my view and take up all the space on the left hand side of the dash where the MP3 plug in is.....

What do you guys think? I was looking at the Garmin GPSmap series or the Humminbird 700 series..... Do you think these would be too big?

Also, I was hoping for something I can take with me on and off the boat since the marina has no security whatsoever.... would I be able to do that with these?

Lastly..... I assume a regular, transom mount transducer would do the trick right?

YOU ARE GONNA LOVE YOUR BENTLEY!!!!!

I have a hummingbird 300 series (I am a cheap skate) and have it mouted on my dash below is a picture of it. I don't have any problems getting to the MP3 Plug with it on the dash still plenty of room.


I just attached the transducer to the tab right beside the speedo and ran the wires, I like the fact that I can push one button and the unit comes off and goes in the shore bag and stays with us and not on the boat.

Yep, that looks almost just like the one I found at a garage sale locally for $40.00 Pull it off and stow it when its not being used! Works great, primarily bought it for depth indication...

$40 bucks I got hosed!!!!!!!!!!

I use the map and GPS portion when I am on Table Rock lake, comes in handy on that big of a lake, really helpful on those late evening cruises. The sonar is great for staying in the channel, mine also tells me the temp of the water, which is nice, but my toe is just as accurate.

HUMMINBIRD 383C GPS/Depth finder for me. Head comes off easily.

Seems to work Ok so far altho it is a helluva lot smarter than I am---I need to read a little more I guess.

Congrats on the 243. What motor did you order? The lifting strakes are a nice option, about 500, but well worth the money. You should have brackets on the port and starboard toon for the transducer. Found this info on the 243 yesterday.

Also, the lifting strakes are now standard equipment on th 2010's

There is enough room on the left side of that console to mount a new Lowrance HDS-10 without obstructing your view
