08 Regency

#1 Post by smuckie » Fri Jun 13, 2014 5:45 am

Hey gang, brand new to forum and pontooning, haven't even picked up mine yet, looking at a 2008 Sunchaser Regency 22,have a few questions if you don't mind, do all of he Regencys of 08 have lifting strakes? How fast can I expect to go with the 115 Merc 4 stroke on it and best cruising speed and fuel mileage? Thanks for the help

Welcome. I had a 115 4 stroke on my SB non straked and saw 25. I would guess with strakes and twin tubes you should be 30 ish. Go to engine reports on merc site and look at the 115 's. You will have tests on comparable boats with the 115 and it will give you fuel usage , best cruise /mpg usage. I usually cruised around 15 mph on mine, not worried about gas but its about where my wifes cowboy hat would start to lift off. :lol3

Welcome aboard smuckie. Is your boat a Sun Chaser or a Sun Tracker. Regency is the top end model for Sun Tracker. I have the 2008 Regency 22 Party barge with 115 hp and lifting strakes. Not all of them had the strakes, they were an option in 08. My boat is 24' deck with 22' pontoons. I have hit 31 mph gps with mine.

With strakes and a 115 hp motor, you should be pretty efficient on fuel if you trim the motor up enough to get the nosecones out of the water. I would think 5 mpg would be about normal. That's very good for an aluminum barge.

My 150 hp is more like 4 to 4.5 mpg at 20 mph cruise speeds.

Thanks I got the boat but I think it has the wrong prop. Tach shows only 4900 at 19 miles an hour. The number on the prop ended with p13. What should I have on this boat? What diameter and pitch should I have? Thanks for the help.

Hey Waterlogged yours sounds just like mine, do you know what prop is on yours, and my steering is a little tight but I am used to the Moomba I just sold, is it normal for that, afraid I'm going to bother you all a bit for awhile

Hey guys got the boat home and found a bottom skin plate that was bent straight down acting like a "hydrobrake" so I hope it goes faster than 19 mph
Anyone know how much water storage there is for the sink?

Smuckie my prop is 13.75 X 15 pitch. I have to watch my RPM because if I'm not careful it revs up to 6600 way past the 6400 redline. No idea what the water tank holds. Oh and the picture is waay to big, can't see what it is.

That's only cause cause I don't know what I'm doing with attachments:-) but I need to see what's up after I fixed the bent plate, that had to be dragging the boat down, I'll try to load a smaller pic

Took the boat out today still only ran 20 mph at 4900 rpm, and when I pushed in throttle release and tried to rev it in neutral it would only go up to 2300 rpm and sputtered, what do you guy think, really want to get this fixed
