Box Anchor Pricing - Overtons - Labor Day Weekend

Hey guys there was talk in a few threads about the box anchors so I wanted to pass this along. Overtons is having a labor day sale that gives 10% off $100, 15% off $200 and 20% off $300. They also have the price match guarantee which if you find it online at another retailer listed not as a sale price they will match and give those percentages off plus free shipping. Overtons listed the anchors at $159.99 for the small and $189.99 for the large.

I was lead to this site http://www.boatersplus.com/anchoring-an ... x-anchors/ which had them a few bucks cheaper but they show the msrp price and their price so Overtons would not match. Here the small is $128.99 and large is $154.99.

I went ahead and ordered two of the large anchors at the matched $155.95x2 = $311.90 plus tax at 6% = $330.61 which qualify's for 20% off = $264.49 to my door. Sale is good through Monday if anyone else is interested or shopping around.

Thanks! Just picked up the baby box anchor and a line winder for $99 and change. I have been wanting the smaller one to use as a stern anchor.

I bought the large since the size isnt much bigger and they are only 6 lbs. more. From what I read a lot of the bowriders, etc were using the small. I have a 15lb danforth and a 15lb navy anchor both with chain that dont seem to hold well on my pontoon. I was in the gulf of mexico last weekend scalloping and only got the danforth to hold once out of all the times I put it out unless I dove in and set it good by hand. I'd had enough so I went big. These boats have a lot of freeboard and I dont want to be "that guy"... I hope they work as well as everyone online says they do. I use my anchor every time the boat goes out whether we go to the springs or lake to swim. My navy anchor held the stern of my boat fine, but I figured what the heck and bought two of the large box anchors anyway.

There were a few members on this site that had the large ones.

are box anchors good for mud bottoms? Our bay's water are fast moving with VERY muddy bottoms. I have a 20' toon btw.

I have used one small box anchor on an anchor buddy with great success for a couple of years. It holds my 25 foot Harris Tritoon in rocks and mud. Great anchors!

OT does not match that price anymore. The guy said because PBS charge $30 shipping, the total is actually more than what OT charge, so no price matching.

Kyle, I've had great luck with a box anchor on my pontoon and often on mud bottoms. I don't know what size my box anchor is, but it has literally NEVER failed to hold. I never use a stern anchor as you are asking your anchors to do so much more then they are designed to do by not allowing the boat to swing in a circle. So I just use one anchor and let the boat swing around.

The box anchor is just a superior design in my opinion. Based on the design and based on their website, I think it actually lifts up and rolls over when the wind shifts in the opposite direction, then it digs in and sets itself again. It seems to grab immediately.. We anchor every time we are out. Usually all day and sometimes all night. I have never had to work to get it to set and I've never had to reset it. That is worth repeating.... I have never had to reset it. I gently lower it in the water off the bow. I usually let out about a 3:1 scope (a lot less than you need with most anchors), then I tie off and forget about it. Anchoring is just that simple with a box anchor in my experience.

Just to follow up - I got my anchors on Friday via FedEx and was really impressed with the manufacturing of them. I took the boat out on Saturday and dropped it over the side and it held within a foot of where it hit bottom. I was impressed. I tried them in grass and sand and they worked very well. They grabbed so well that we struggled with bringing them up At 25lbs each they will give you a workout.

I broke down and finally bought one from ebay for $150 shipped, because OT would not match the price of the other site.

Wow that's some nice clear water you have there. Our creek has muddy brackish water, I hate it. It smells, cannot see what's in there and if you jump off boat you are stuck in 3'+ of mud.
