Double Bimini top
Does any company convert a standard Bimini to double? The Bimini on my Bennington is in really good shape, like new. I want a full double Bimini, but I cant see paying for something I already have. Does anyone 'convert' existing Biminis to double? I thought about just putting another top on front to where they would butt up against each other in the middle too. Has anyone done that, and how does it wind up looking/working?
Thanks!
Tim

Re: Double Bimini top
Tim,
this is from Jim Myers at pontoon Stuff.
We don't offer the doubles anymore because it's only the ability to zip them together that made them "double" tops. It's a lot cheaper to just buy two regular ones, most people don't zip them anyhow so we dropped them in order to stream line our inventory and keep the prices low.

Re: Double Bimini top
On my Sweetwater model there was no option for a double Bimini, but it was very important to me to have a Full Bimini, or not deal.
At time of purchase dealer stated no problem we can custom make a full Bimini for an addition $1,200, so I agreed.
Well sales and service our separate, and my full became 2/3 which could have work but was the wrong 2/3.
Long story short was able to work with service department but ended up $1800 instead of $1,200, and triple Bimini.
I now have full coverage and will almost always have the center and aft raised.
At one point searched Web and found outfit on Ebay that would make a full coverage double Bimini with 1 1/4 supports for $1800 per given dim.
So If ordered toon without a Bimini it's possible to get a full double. However would have to install or have someone install.
All in all I'm happy with the final setup my dealer created. For me 3 may even be better.
Note they had no problem matching color, but then again it's new.

On my 20' Sea Nymph, I too would like to mount a second top on my 20' Sea Nymph but in measuring, it appears that the rear bow will obstruct passengers from entering the boat.

Re: Double Bimini top
This should not be hard for a local canvas shop to handle. They can get you the second top and I'm sure they can modify your original one to allow them to join together if you want them to.
Here is a pretty typical design. My back bimini top can be used by itself, but the front one cannot. The back bimini has 4 support poles going from side to side. One in the back, two evenly spaced out in the middle, and one in the front. In addition to a support pole going from side to side at the front end of the back bimini there is also a zipper. That zipper is how the front bimini attaches to the back bimini. The front bimini has no support pole near that zipper, but has two more support poles going from side to side as you work your way toward the front of the boat. I'm not saying that is the only option, but it is a pretty common design.
Everyone has different opinions on what is important and what they like on their boat. For me, that double bimini is the #1 "accessory" or requirement. We use it all the time. Both tops are always up and I have never gone home from the lake saying "I sure wish I had gotten more sun". Of course, I'm a bald guy in AZ, so those are factors for sure. I love the sun, but we get plenty of it and I enjoy shade on the boat.

Re: Double Bimini top
I added a second to my Harris. I actually purchased a second factory bimini from my dealer and installed it myself. There is only about an inch gap between the two biminis. I have zero mechanical ability and the installation was simple. I absolutely love the full coverage during hot Missouri days!

This might help, it was my plan B.
Either I remembered wrong or prices may be even lower now, and this guy will work with you if you need custom setup.
Prices vary on size and material weight.

Absolutely love, love, love the dual biminis on my Harris. That the two zip together adds to the stability.

Re: Double Bimini top
You guys have pretty much convinced me to just put a second Bimini top on it. Seems to be the cheapest way. Now I just gotta decide on how to mount it. I'm thinking of mouting it 'backwards'. That way I can lay it down flat when I put my mooring cover on it. Whats going to limit me is the gate on the right side. I have to mount it forward enough so the support rod don't land on the gate. That will probably leave a bit of a gap between the tops. Not ideal, but still lots better than no shade at all.

Re: Double Bimini top
I just ordered the second Bimini from PontoonStuff.com. I think I might alter it a bit. I am thinking about removing the rear upright, hoop and support le6s, and just attaching the rear of the fabric to the front of the original top. That configuration would pretty much match the one on Zoom650's Harris, and I would not have to worry about the rear support legs landing on my side gate.
