How to Raise My Helm Seat?

#1 Post by Mosnowman » Tue Sep 01, 2015 6:41 am

Biggest regret is not having a raised helm. Tired of sitting on a round fender. Has anyone figured out a creative way to sit higher without changing out your seat? Thanks!

If it's a bench seat, adding a couple of 2"x4" underneath? :donno

A round pedestal seat is very easy to raise by cutting out a circle an inch or two wider than the current base by removing the pedestal from the deck and screwing it to the deck and then screwing it to the larger plate... working with scarps of 3/4" to 1" plywood the sky is the limit within reason...

I bought a telescoping pedestal for my helm seat. Any big boating retailer or Bass Pro will have them.

^ This. I bought mine 6 years ago and it's still the best $79 I've spent on my boat. Read this:

I have the adjustable seats in the Premier. But the front was too low, I felt like I was sliding off frontwards all the time. I added some 1"x2" square aluminum from Home Depo to the front, between the seat frame and the adjuster, works good. You can add it to the front and rear to raise the whole seat

I have a Springfield Mainstay adjustable pedestal for my seat, its has air ride and goes from 14-21" with a flip of the lever. They are a bit spendy in the 200$ range but the height, front to back slider, and air ride make it worth it.
