My New Boat

#1 Post by C_M_25 » Sat Oct 17, 2015 8:49 am

...well not really a new boat. More like new trailer.

For those of you who may remember, I had some minor trailer problems that grew to bigger issues, and after we worked through them, we realized the trailer was overloaded. It took nearly 3 months, but here we are! They were going to add a second axle to my old trailer, but after they completed the work, the didn't like how it looked. They sent me a brand new tandem axle trailer with upgraded chrome rims. I tell you what. It is a bummer to miss out on so much boating season, but being patient yet persistent got me a lot further than if I would have yelled at them. Treating people like crap never gets you very far.

Anyway, here is before and after! the boat does sit a little taller on this trailer which is fine. I notice the axles are further back. I'm assuming that this will allow the trailer to drop into the water a little faster to get the boat off of it. We'll see how that goes!

Just got back from our trip out, and man, that new trailer pulls smooooth! I can tell this one is set up properly for this boat. It is a bit taller. It has 14" tires on it, and the brackets for the bunks are a bit taller too. I had to back the trailer in quite a bit farther than I used to. Small price to pay though. Hoping to use it a few more times before winter!

Your trailer looks good. My parents have a single axle under their 2086 and just towed it from Florida to Canada and back without any issues. I have the 2286 on a double axle trailer. Just be careful with the axles further back because your more prone to drop off the end of the ramp (trust me, I've done it). You can hang the rear tires, but make sure the fronts don't drop off.

BTW - nice looking boat!

Yeah, a properly set up single axle would have been fine. The one that came with my boat was only rated to carry 2000 lbs. My boat with motor, fuel, and batteries only weighed somewhere between 2300-2400 lbs. After nearly a year of towing it like that, I started having seal problems then bearing problems. They have increased the specs for all future single axle trailers because of this issue.

You mention that I can hang the rear tires off of the end of the ramp. Can you tell when the rear tires fall off of the end before the front tires?

Not unless you can see the bottom or there is a sign at the end of the concrete.
