Dent Removal...

#1 Post by Capt. Dan » Tue Mar 29, 2016 6:51 am

Soooo, my wife took our new pontoon out last summer with some of her clueless friends and sure enough, banged it into a dock. Are there any good tips/ideas on dent removal? I may not be able to access this area from the rear, but will try...

Sorry, I tried to include a pix, but it didn't work -- not sure how to do it.

The dent is in the fence, not the pontoon.

No creases in it so should be able to get behind it and tap it out with body hammers and then buff the paint, most of it will disappear

Thanks Herb, I was wondering if some sort of suction cup dent puller would work.

I've also seen a process online where you spray nitrogen or something like that on it to get it super cold and then hit it with s heat gun and the dent pops right out (this was for cars, I would think it would work here too).

Give it a try, it is aluminum, and the cold and heat would get it moving

On a year old boat, I'd be ordering new aluminum from the manufacturer through your selling dealer. It's going to be enough for an insurance claim after labor.

I think you could pull the seat out and carefully massage it and buff it out

Use rubber one first and never use a ball ping,it made for heavier use, use body hammers, go to harbor freight, but with aluminum you can use hard pieces of plastic to push it out a little a a time, don't get in a hurry
