2008 Mercury 115 4 stroke - running rough

#1 Post by Jaydog281 » Wed Jun 22, 2016 12:25 pm

I have a 2008 Mercury 115, four stroke. After running for about 10 min., stopping to pick up friends, it re started ok , then bogged down like it was starving for gas. It gave it some gas an it seemed to jump back to life and run good for about 20 minutes then I was at idle and it struggled again like it was running on 2 cylinders and died. it restarted but was still struggling to idle. I gave it some gas and it can back to life.

The weekend before it just lost all power and dies and wouldn't restart so I got towed in and called the mobile mechanic. He replaced all the filters and added a water separator by the fuel tank but I'm now getting the above results.

The mobile guy thinks it could be bad gas from the e10 thing.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

Jim

Find the recent thread on here about this exact problem. There was an attachment for the Mercury "bulletin" for the fuel sending module. Seems to be popping lately. I would think if it's E10 related it would be happening to everyone.

how long has the gas been sitting in the tank? water/fuel separator been changed lately. To rule out your entire fuel delivery system you can get a 3 gallon aux tank and fill it with fresh gas and hook it strait to your motor. If you still have the problem then you know it's the engine. If the problem goes away you can start looking at fuel delivery, fuel, tank, lines and filters. Good luck.

Just tonight, I had to change my fuel/water separator filter on the water. It had been acting up, I always keep a spare on board, and it fixed the problem immediately.
