2012 F150 4x4 Ecoboost with 285 BFG A/T tires (IIRC) and gets about 9mpg towing 70MPH.
I'm in Marathon right now and was in Key West earlier this week. I wouldn't want to tow a boat through Key West. Marathon isn't as bad, but I would still look at renting a boat down here, especially if you are going to have to factor in the cost of a trailer.

Re: Towing gas mileage
I towed mine down last year from Orlando at this time when I rented a house in Marathon. I run radials on my trailer and didnt have any issues. I have a F250 on 35's with the 5.4. This truck struggles to get out of its own way without the boat so I knew it wasn't going to be a fun tow. I got 6.1mpg running 60-65. I stopped in Marathon to fill my truck and boat when we made it to the keys and my credit card was denied. I called the card company while at the gas station and the card had been flagged since it was going to be my 3rd gas charge in under 7 hours so they figured the card had been stolen. Just make sure you call them before you leave and let them know you will be buying gas a lot before you leave.
If I was going down again tomorrow I'd take it again. Just check the weather forecast and make sure your going to be able to use it a lot before you pull it that far. When we tied up at Sombrero there were a bunch of pontoons there also. I threw in a couple of my trolling rods and we managed to catch a few nice dolphin during our trip.
After I posted this I just went to another forum I frequent and found this thread that you may want to take a look at;

Yeah, it did suck. Especially because, he owned a Wellcraft, and when he backed it down his driveway, wifey didn't chock the trailer tires. Steve unhooked the Wellcraft, which rolled on down the hill and into an oak tree to crack the transom. He traded the smashed Wellcraft for the Grady.Crab Island Cruiser wrote:I'm def in no hurry to get down there especially with safety and mpg in mind. Sux about you brother getting rear ended. I would be upset if that happened.
Clearly, the boat gods were trying to tell him something.

Re: Towing gas mileage
I just completed a tow test a few minutes ago. I filled my truck up and then towed the boat at 60 mph for 51 miles round trip. This was through town at 45 mph for 6 miles and state road 20 at 60 mph for 45 miles round trip. Total of 51 miles. I topped the truck off with 5.17 gal. So that's roughly 10mpg. Not bad. temp is 88* here.
