Pontton stuff Electric Bimini

#1 Post by mzodarg » Tue Aug 30, 2016 3:10 am

So I bought this back on July 1st and I'm just getting around to installing it. After unpacking the box, I noticed a few things that I'm interested in getting more info on.

1. Doesn't appear I purchased one with the remote. I've looked at Pontoon stuffs website and there is no option that I see other then the one I purchased. Is this an option I can add?

2. Package did not come with a boot, again is this something I can purchase separately?

As always, TIA

I would contact them, you have to have a boot to raise it in the radar position, also the remote is an option but was included with mine when i bought it from Pontoon Stuff, call them they are great to work with.

Took your advice and called them, the remote is no longer available from the manufacture so I'm SOL. They were able to send me a boot as it supposed to come with one.

Also spoke with Power Arm and they have discontinued the remote due to the jerkiness but they have several companies developing an alternative that should be available in the next 90 days and it will be an easy install.

I appreciate the offer. Like you, I'm not sure I'd use it either. I'll see how it goes when I get out to the lake and get some use on it.

I'm still somewhat perplexed as to why I kept blowing fuses and the 6amp breaker at the fuse box. I'm thinking of re-wiring the fuse block, just to see if it is suspect wiring.

I did find the extra control box and remote if you want it
what size of fuse are you blowing.
I ran a new 12 gauge wire from the battery to the helm with a 20 amp fuse to protect the wire near the battery.
mine runs well with no problems with the 6 amp breaker.
I did help a friend install one and he had problems and found that the front arm was in a bind, he loosened up the self tapping screw on the main arm and found out it was in a bind.

Here's something I posted awhile back....

I can offer one "gotcha" that I experienced after installing the power top on my boat. It was my of own doing and not a fault of the the top.

Mine kept popping the auto-reset breaker when being lowered. After removing the remote box and just wiring to the switch direct with the same results, tying to a dedicated wire from the battery, I finally removed the canvas and the cross tube of the powered bows and ran them independently. They both ran fine.

As it turns out when installing the cross tube in the powered bows, I was over zealous on making sure the powered bow tubes came down completely square on the second bow. The result of this was the powered bows were being pushed out to the point of putting the bows into a bind in the drive head pivot channels. I then put the cross tube in place and ran the assembeled bow with no screws in it and let it find it's own spread throughout the cycle. I then just put 1 screw back into the cross tube and am letting the other end "float" as needed. Haven't had a problem since. Works like a dream...love it!
Some people try to turn back their odometers. Not me, I want people to know 'why' I look this way. I've traveled a long way and some of the roads weren't paved.

If you want a really good quality remote relay system to control actuators and many other 12/24V toys look at the Quick products. I have used them for many transom/dinghy lifts to control hydraulic pumps and never had a problem. I can tell you I have tested many different styles and companies and the Quick stuff was by far the best, they are Italian made but you can easily source them out of the states. The only problem is they are far from the cheapest!!

pretty cool, I saw that is articulates backwards to give shade as the sun moves, will it articulate FWD in the same fashion, or does it have an auto-stop position? I could see a benefit in a driving rain or heading into the sun, sort of like a visor.
