Who out there uses drift socks? What has been your success with them? What kind of speed reductions do you see? Please don't suggest the 5 gallon bucket idea. That doesn't work well with my boat.
My main issues with wind is obviously getting pushed to fast when drifting flats for crappie and white bass, and the other main issue is casting shoreline with a wind blowing into shore. I can usually keep the bow pointed away from the bank with the trolling motor, but it would be nice to keep the stern from swinging around on me so quickly. Any thoughts?

Re: Drift Sock Discussion
I use drift socks quite a bit this time of the year for drifting for catfish.
I use 2 of the Big Lindy drift socks, I believe they are 60 inch I also have 3 of the smaller versions 36 inch. Depending on the wind speed it varies on which combination I use.
Sometimes I have had to use all 5 . I try and keep my boat speed around.5mph for best results. Also adjusting them farther or closer to the boat depending on wind speed.
A friend of mine swears by using a 4x8 tarp off the back of his center console boat when drifting for white bass. I just use my drift socks since I already have them. Hope this helps.

Do you think these massive parachutes dragging in the water behind the boats spooks the fish at all?

If my 8 foot by 24 foot pontoon boat with churning motor and rocking stereo doesn't scare 'em off, a little drift anchor won't phase them.
