My favorites are the ones that have a flat side and a notch that the trim on th deck fits in so they wont roll up and out as easy.

Do these things have to be semi "installed" before launch ? can they be easily moved from side to side once on the water?

you can install them on the water at any time. You lower them below the deck trim and then pull up to snug them on the trim piece. The EZfenders that a member makes here are probably an easy way to attach them and hold them in place. I don't have them yet but need to get some.
