I looked at Mobil's web site. I found no oil that meets this spec.[/quote]
But now I do wonder if I missed seeing FC-W printed on the bottle of the Yamaha 4M oil I used? I know I was aware of it in the Mercury Oil but just don't recall seeing it on the Yamaha oil...

Gonna have to do some more mulling around...
Would have been nice to be able to use one top shelf oil such as Mobil 1 in all 4 major motorized investments...
But one for land and another for sea is not so bad...
Thanks for the link...

Re: The oil thread
Yeah I would have probably changed to Mobil 1 also since reading this thread through, but the lack of the FC-W rating gave me pause

I hear ya... Its that Mercury specifically calls for FC-W in the manual and that Yamaha specifically does not in the manual but yet their oil is FC-W rated...

Re: The oil thread
A lot of people like to use Amsoil and they have a couple of oils with the FC-W rating.

Re: The oil thread
We went through this oil debate when my wife got her "bucket list" car. She wanted a Jaguar. So... she now has one ( used... we're not wealthy enough for a new one). The car uses synthetic lubricants a lot. But in figuring out things as simple as..... "what automatic transmission fluid should we use?".... we learned that Jaguar sourced their lubricants from Castrol. So..... Castrol transmission fluid or Jaguar's at twice the price?
I'm guessing the marine manufacturers are doing the same. They're not making their own oil. They're sourcing it from somewhere. Just find the manufacturer's specs for lubricants and match them up to whatever you're considering. If it meets the spec, it meets the spec.
