Toon brushes

Hey guys, recently I noticed a speed decrease from 21-22 mph at 5200 rpm's wot to 17-18 mph and not going past 4500 rpm's. I began researching why this was happening which lead me to prop sizing, heat/hot weather and clean pontoons. I keep it in a wet slip from middle May thru October so it builds up algae. One day last week I decided to get under there and spent an hour scrubbing that muck off. Sure enough & surprisingly I was back up to my normal speed & rpm range. I never would have thought that algae could effect performance to that degree.
So my question is, does anyone use those curved pontoon brushes I've seen advertised?

I definitely want to keep up with the algae fight for now one but would rather give them a quick brushing from the dock rather than doing it from the water.

Wow, I would have never guessed those kinds of performance issues could be from algae buildup. Maybe you should get down there with some crisco and lube up those toons and see what it does then!

I believe the brushes you describe were discussed on this forum a
a while back. I don't recall anything nice being said about them.

The bottom of my pontoons are painted with anti-fouling paint. I still get under there with a brush at the beach and give them a light once over. My brush is the same one I use to wash the deck.

Buy a car bondo blade heat it up and press it on the toons so it makes it curved. BINGO! Perfect toon scraper!

Thanks guys, I also recall something bad about that curved brush which is why I wanted to check if anyone uses it.
I used a couple scotchbrite pads but I like your idea Curtiscapk. Thanks I'm going to try that.
