Pontoon horsepower rating
i have a 2005 2019RE Sweetwater with a Yamaha 50 four stroke. I'd like a larger outboard. How do I determine what is too much? A 90, 115, more? What keeps me from installing a 250 or 200?

What does the coast guard tag say?
That's your max HP.
Should be 90hp...

I have a 2015 Sweetwater that is 20'. I run a 90HP Yamaha and I think the max is 150HP.

Re: Pontoon horsepower rating
depends on if its a toon or tritoon. I believe most toons without strakes are rated for 115 or less. Without strakes on a toon more HP doesn't mean that much.

With 2 toons, going over 115 up is a waste of gas and money. They hit a speed wall about 30 mph if there's no lifting strakes to get the nosecones out of the water.
