Weighed my boat on the trailer today. Heavier than I thought

22 foot Manitou Tritoon with the SHP package 150 HO Evinrude G2.

Had 20 gallons of fuel, 2 Batteries and maybe 200 pounds of other stuff.
5000 pounds with trailer included.

They list dry weight of boat at 2550. Motor is around 530.
Trailer must weigh a lot

My trailer for the last Manitou weighed 2850. Was a 30 foot long Heritage Custom heavy duty, tri bunks with tandems and full fenders. Total boat, motor and trailer weight when I set the tongue weight on the trucks hitch, at the Cat Scale, was right at 7200 with no fuel or extras.

It is nice to have a good trailer, but an extremely heavy pontoon trailer is just not needed. When a pontoon/tritoon is sitting on a trailer on carpeted V bunks running the length of the hull, the hull is giving much of the structure of the combined load. Towing huge loads that can be reduced is a waste of fuel of the tow!vehicle. My 1,000 lb. trailer is sufficient for my entry level Bennie with 150 hp.

Maybe around town and an occasional highway tow. But when you tow 5 to 8000 miles a season, as I do, I want a trailer that's gonna hold up. I don't want to be or create a casualty on the interstate, because I bought a cheap trailer.

I also assume you have better than bare minimum brakes installed on your axles?

Oh ya.. For those Missouri hills, you need good brakes. 4 wheel disc with dual piston calipers, with electric reverse lock-out.

Captain - When you add 160lbs for fuel + 40lbs for batteries + 200lbs misc _ 2550lbs + 530Lbs = 3480lbs wet boat & engine.
Leaves about 1500lbs for your trailer. If you can leave the boat tied up, easy enough to know for sure. It does add up quick!
