Salt water is def. Yes on SS prop, freshwater lake? I wouldn't waste the money, anodized/powder coated alum. Would be fine.

Re: bigger motor
I've got a 75 on my 20 footer. When it was brand new and the water was smooth as glass, at wide open i got up to 24-25 miles per hour. Last time I checked the speed, probably a year or two ago I was getting 21-22 mph wide open.

Re: bigger motor
I have a 90 Merc Optimax on a 20 ft Lowe fishing model so no couches up front. I hit 30 one day on Sam Rayburn Lake in 2010 when new. but top out at 27 now. Lake Livingston Tx has too many stumps for an aluminum prop so I run a stainless.
Strange side note-I have a spare aluminum prop that is actually faster than the stainless-I hit 28 with it and touched 29 for a minute or so under perfect conditions. Both have 16 inch pitch props. Also I am faster into the wind than downwind--I have underskinning and I suspect I am getting some bow lift into the wind. Pontoon boats are strange creatures--hard to say what you will get.
Also you will be faster in the winter when water is cold and more dense than in summer. Good luck !

Re: bigger motor
Just what little I really don't know much about.. I wouldn't waste $ on SS either. I don't think 90 hp is enough power to flex alum. And I would much rather trash an alum prop that a shaft. The mechanic at the dealer where I bought the boat actually recommended against SS. I think they have their place but also think that in alot of cases guys just want to think they have something special.

I just sold 22 ft G3 toon ,90HP 4stroke yamaha 22-23 max with 2 peeps.
Re: bigger motor
While I love to spend other people's money, I personally wouldn't until your current motor takes a crap and you have to spend it. Personally, I don't see gains substantial enough to offset the cost.

Re: bigger motor
Yep, I've a "special" stainless steel prop. The special part is that it's attached to a cool pontoon boat!

Re: bigger motor
Yep - This would be my opinion also. Assuming a new top speed of around 22-23 MPH, the gain would not justify the cost for ME. It might be totally different for you!
Remember that you will also see a 50% increase in fuel consumption per hour, when comparing the two motors running wide open. That may impact your fuel tank sizing, depending on what you have now.
The flip side of that is that the same 18 MPH with the 90 will mean a lower cruising RPM than your 60 running wide open. My boat sucks up close to 10 GPH wide open and only half of that at 4200 RPM. So, in my case I double my fuel consumption to go from 18-19 MPH to 24-25 MPH under identical conditions. Take a guess where I cruise if I'm going a long distance and want to make my 24 gallons last?

Re: bigger motor
Thanks to every body for your thoughts I can live with what I got. the 60hp does real good on gas as I mostly troll at 2 to 3 mph.
