1974? Ghetto build
Hey so I’m new here, but a buddy of mine found me this gem for $200.
1998 9.9 Evinrude runs good! Boats just ugly.
So I want to get to work on some cheap improvements, where would you guys start?
No major rust, after looking it over everything’s just surface! No holes or deep scaling!
The goal with this build is a cheap and ghetto build. Any cool ideas?

Re: 1974? Ghetto build
First, I would flip it over so that it floats better
Then I would make it a floating "Tiki Bar" with a plastic "grass" thatched roof and grass-thatched skirting on the side rails. Add tropical color accents, decorations, and accessories then drop it in the water.
The beauty is cheap, easy, and expandable as desired. Think torches, plastic parrots, coconut shells, etc. Most importantly, you get choose the level of ghetto you want to achieve, while making new friends on the lake.

That’s a cool idea!
I’m also gonna make a new steering wheel that’s like one of those large wooden ship wheels with the knobs around the outside, like Columbus used. The only ones I can find online are wall decor.
I’ll look into the grass turf and thatch look and see what I can find. Any other suggestions??

and is there any way to rotate photos? No idea why they came out upside down xD
Re: 1974? Ghetto build
Look on Craigslist, Facebook Marketplace or check out some yard sales for old, tired furniture. A couple of old recliners or chairs, and a couch will give that ghetto onboard look. When the furniture gets wet or nasty from being outside, just push it overboard in a deep area of the lake! Fishing Reef created!!! LOL
Seriously though, don't throw furniture overboard.

Re: 1974? Ghetto build
Lol I’m unsure if this thing could lift most furniture.
With 12 people on it last year we had it out you could barely see the logs. If someone got up to get a beer it would damn near sink us
I’m also on a hunt for a separate trailer to gain back some capacity.

Re: 1974? Ghetto build
I turned your boat over - it may help it run faster.
Zip tie some of this to your railings as a start, then add "grass" trim as required.

Re: 1974? Ghetto build
Try to keep the weight down with using PVC pipe and fitting, light easy to work with. Used that to make bathroom enclosure for my boat. Easy to take down and put up, just screwed caps to rails sanded ends so they slide in easily then used some thin clips with trough holes to secure in place, also attached 15 inch lengths to the sides with 2 hose clamps, heated one end up with a heat gun pinched it closed and now I can put beach umbrellas in them so I can move/adjust my shade. We also have plastic chairs on the front part, easy to move, or stack them up for more room. Don't forget a big loud obnoxious horn.....
Re: 1974? Ghetto build
Hooooleeeee shit. I can't find a dog pen for $200 and you got one that floats.

Got the motor runnin and new ropes for fenders, and some homemade name signs made!
I’m gonna order some of that bamboo fencing!
I tried flipping the photo, no matter what I do they come upside down.
