Anyone From Southern Illinois Or Indiana

#1 Post by trott46 » Tue Mar 16, 2010 9:49 am

I would like to find a new place kind of close to home to check out. Closes places to me other then the Wabash River (2min away) is an hour or more. Takes some time out of our day. :fasttoon

How about Olney? Not a huge lake but nice. Pretty decent fishing too.

They were out on the Saturday that we were there. We had 5 guys drinking on board and they drove right past us a couple times but never stopped.

On our lake the toons are the last one stopped. I have passed them several times while they had a bow riders stopped with a beer in my hand, and the DNR just waved as I went by. Come to think of it I have never been stopped in a toon. When I had the bow rider I had a glove compartment full of warning tickets.

It's more like two and half hours away but you can try Kinkaid Lake by Murphysboro. If you want to make a weekend of it, Crab Orchard is in Carbondale. I haven't seen a whole lot of pontoons on Crab but have seen some.

Hey Trott,
We boat at a place called Lake Kinkaid in Murhpysboro IL. It's a haul from where your at, but I promise you won't find a better lake in all the state. It's deep and clean. Lots of cliffs and coves. You need to check it out on a long weekend.

I am from southern Indiana and do most of my boating on the Ohio River. It's a great but often overlooked resource. On one trip I went down the Ohio, then up the Wabash to Terre Haute. Also took a site trip up the White River at Mt. Carmel. Loved it!
