It's almost time!

#1 Post by rsmith » Mon Mar 15, 2010 10:55 am

In another 2-3 weeks the new toon will be here! Then I take a vacation on a much larger boat. But still, the new toon is almost here! Got the slip rented this past weekend, dry storage lined up, starting to stock up on all the wonderful accessories (coolers, dock lines, fenders, etc). With the time change and the lake quickly thawing I'm ready for spring and summer. Bring it on!

It is time here!

I didn't have to work this weekend, the sun was shining and the temp was almost up to 70. I looked at the wife and asked if she was ready to go. Called another couple and hit the water. Went to the public ramp here in Lafayette and very few people were out. I could not belive it. The river (bayou) was low and I had zero depth on the fish finder at the launch but it was enough to float the boat, about 10 feet in the channel. Started on first crank and ran great!

The Vermillion river is not real scenic but it was a good time anyway.

I will be towing back to Toledo Bend next week and putting the boat back on the lift. I can't wait to get back on the lake.

We've got about a month before I even think of being on the water here. I will probably taker her out of storage, and un-winterize in a couple of weeks. I need to make sure my 1 battery is good, and get another for my dual battery set up. Then make sure everything is up and running good.

Won't be until about May when we start taking it out to get IN the water. :drive

It'll end up being about the 1st of May when we get our new boat in the water. Sure it arrives in early April, but I head out on vacation about the time the boat gets here and it's still a bit chilly in early April. At least the lake (Chatfield) is thawing out. Some ice fishermen apparently went through the ice this past week - got out ok.

might get accumulating snow? We won't see above freezing tomorrow and will get upwards of a foot of crappy wet heavy snow. Yup, not quite boating season yet. Although it was about 70 today.

Forecast at the lake is 75 tomorrow. I will be there. This will be the first time I have been down in about 3 or 4 months. Think that is the longest period with out going in the last 5 years. Plan to take the chainsaw an brush cutter to do a little work then sip on a few beers.
