Underskin ???

#1 Post by rcl700 » Sun Mar 28, 2010 4:06 pm

Anyone see any other material other than sheet aluminum to underskin a toon? I was looking at some glass board sheets at lowes today and they look like they would do the job & an cost alot less.

4' x8' Frp fiber board. .090 thick.

Seem strong, water proof, mold proof, cheep $26 a sheet.

What are your thoughts?? Should I try it??

Should be alot less drag.

I think that might be to brittle. Seems to me that you would crack it when screwing it. That stuff is always used with some sort of backing like putting it over dry wall. I dont thing it would handle the voids between the cross memebers. J.M.O.

I wouldn't use anything but aluminum or stainless stell sheeting to underskin a toon. Reason is once on the water it is almost constantly wet. Also the metal is going to be a lot more forgiving, and last longer. I think that fiber board stuff it water resistant, but shouldn't be wet very often.
