polishing brand new toons -Void Warranty?
Does the factory put some sort of protectent film over toons that has to be removed prior to appling polishing compound? Thinking If I am going to Polish and then Sharkhide the toons, it may be easier before I ever use it ,any thought on this , How long does it take approx to polish each 22' toon.
Also if factory does finish , does polishing and or Sharkhideing the toons void any kind of warranty??

Your on the right track, doing it before putting in water is the best choice of action. To the best of my knowledge it won't have any effect on your warranty! I have no idea how look it takes to polish them, some here have done it and can answer that one. As to applying Shark Hide, it's easy and took me about 30 minutes each time. Follow the instructions carefully and you will be more than happy with results.

They don't have any protective coating that I am aware of. Get some wet an dry sandpaper. Most automotive stores carry a multi pack.
400 to 1000 grit. This will save you some time since the polishing brings out the imperfection in the logs. The sharkhide polish is the best an fastest way to bring the shine on. It is not abrasive so that is the purpose of the wet/dry paper. There are a lot of products you can use, rouge, mothers metal polish, meguiars, 0000 steel wool with some liquid detergent an all sorts of polishing compounds. I have used a lot of different things but the sharkhide is the best an fastest. Time will probably be 2 or 3 days. They do like nice when polished but make no mistake it is a job. I like making stuff shine so that helped see me through it. You could probably find a boat dealer or detailing shop to do it for about 500 bucks maybe less if they need the work. Oh, forgot to say, use lacquer thinner to remove the black residue, mineral spirits works also but not quite as good.

Re: polishing brand new toons -Void Warranty?
This is a project that I am tackling this spring myself. I have already got the sharkhide polish and protectant, and have the PC dual action buffer with plenty of pad at the ready. Honestly, this isn't something that should take more than a day. You really don't need to polish the insides of them, as nobody is going to see them unless they are under the toon. I am going to do the outsides of both logs, then the insides back about 5 feet, just where it can be noticed going down the road or lake. As for the bottoms, I'm not going any lower than my buffer can go while it's on the trailer. After all, the toon sits further down than that in the water anyways.
I also highly doubt this would void any warranty. If anything, you're dealer/manufacturer will praise you for it, as the protectand will help ensure protection of the logs.

I got rollers on my trailer so I done mine all the way down and then slid it back to get the areas where the rollers where and picked up 1 mph as mine where dirty went I got it.
I still want to do the inside better as that cuts the drag down too and the kids see it and so do I , if it's to hot, I float under the toon out of the sun.

No I was in a hurry ,it's hard being dyslexic, I have to read posts many times as what I thinking some time doesn't come out right, I missed that one, I have rollers, but them I'm from the south, so I got them too.

Re: polishing brand new toons -Void Warranty?
So , I need to sand down the toons first ? going progressivley from 400 to the 1000 grit and then apply the sharkhide Polish to get a mirror like shine ,wipe down thoroughly with laquer thinner and then apply the Sharkhide protectant finish. This should take between 3 & 4 hours per toon , now what if I am applying approximatly 3 to 4 beers per hour , does the rate go to 8 to 9 hours per toon ? This looks like a 15 to 20 hour 2 case of cold ones job.

If I dont polish the toons , do I just wipe them clean with something and then apply the Sharkhide protectant ?

it's a great thing to do if you've got hours and hours with nothing else to do.
Re: polishing brand new toons -Void Warranty?
I did mine two years ago and applied Sharkhide after I finished. So far they still look like they did the day I finished. Took two weekends but I'm happy with the results, get lots of compliments. Here are before and after shots.

thanks for the pics, your boat looks great, this is what Im looking for when I get through. Did you polish the whole toons inside and out and if you did the bottom how did you get to it? I have built street rods and Harleys to drive and show, so part of me just has to reach for the polish, just never done it on such a large scale. So after two years it still looks great , now do you just wipe clean and re apply the shark hide ?maybe get a couple more years , wondering if this can keep going or at some point will you have to strip and repolish starting the cycle over again.
