mooring cover repair

#1 Post by bgw » Wed Apr 21, 2010 5:59 pm

I have a full mooring cover for pontoon boat and a few snaps are broken that is not a big deal I can repair those but there are plastic clips that snap over the railing of the boat. Many of those are broken, can they be replaced? Any idea where to buy?

I think I know the clips you are talking about. Is your boat by chance a premier? They are called J clips.Tomarrow or friday, I'll do a little searching arround. I'm in need my self. I was told they can be replaced. :thumbsup

I have the Harris with the clips also, I called Harris at 260-432-4555 and was able to get some clips with the rivots. You may want to get a few extra. Hope it helps.

thanks NEBSTER. I called the Harris and they pointed me to the local dealer who has the clips in stock. They are also ordering the lights that I mentioned in the other post. Did you have to buy a separate tool put the clips on? Is it the smae tool you would use to put the snaps on a cover?

To put the clips on I used a pair of side cutters to remove the old rivot and just pushed the new one through and used a hammer and a punch. I took a old pc of wood to lay the snap on when I smashed it, dont know if that was the right way or not but it looks good and it still working.

Harris pontoon boat mooring cover EZ-Clip replacements and rivets can be ordered through any Harris pontoon boat dealer. There are two different sizes. A 3.5" for the flat sections (2208350) and a 1.5" for the radius areas (2208354). The larger one takes 2 rivets and the small one takes 1 rivet. They're relatively inexpensive, so buy a couple extra in case any break. Most canvas shops will have the rivet tool needed to install. You'll want to use a 2-piece rivet that is smooth on each side or make sure the smooth side of your pop rivet is on the inside of the clip so you don't scratch your fence rail.
