trolling motors

#1 Post by BassFrequency » Fri Apr 30, 2010 7:27 pm

Hi all,

seeing as gas is getting out of hand again, I am going to buy a trolling motor for bopping around close and fishing. i know its a dead horse topic but I have a poor mans budget of around $230 and I'd love to run it off the giant 12v batt cuz i dont want another 2 batts to haul.

what # thrust and size shaft would fit my budget? bow or aft mount doesnt matter, I can make a custom mount
24' 1989 Starcraft 23.1mph gps
60HP Evinrude
'96 GMC Jimmy "The Demon" custom 8 ball lever 4x4
no muffler or cat. just strait to the back

I'm not sure how "budget" you want to go, but here is what i did. It is a Minn Kota Endura 50 42" Trolling Motor. I'm pretty sure I paid under $200 for it. It's a few years old. If you go over 50 lb of thrust, your probably looking at 24V.
To bow mount it you have to reverse the handle. I also had to use a bolt in the tilt gears to keep it from occasionally popping up. It can pull my boat between 2-2.7 mph (gps). :biggrin2
