Hey y'all. Just wanted to let you all know that I've been lurking these forums for a couple months now, and finally went and pulled the trigger on a pontoon this afternoon. Found an '09 Sun Tracker Party Barge 21 over in Crystal River, took the wife and 2 year old and let them climb on and around it. We all loved it. It's "only" got the 60 Bigfoot on it, but hey, my kid's only 2. By the time he cares about speed too much, it'll be time for a new 'toon anyway.

My only concern is that it's going to be riding on a single axle trailer with no brakes. I don't plan on trailering it too far, but it will always be trailered. Hopefully the single axle will be stable enough behind our truck and/or Jeep and I'll be ok without trailer brakes. My dad has a 24' toon, and he likes to talk about how it's a different type of beast to pull than the V-hulls we're used to. Time and brake pads will tell, I'm sure.

Thanks for all the heads up, warnings, suggestions and whatnot throughout the pages, they were a real blessing for me going from pontoon to pontoon and looking for the particulars. I think we'll all be happy with our purchase for years to come.

Nice.....the last photo is a keeper. I got a 24 without brakes. I just try an allow for the stopping distance an let the overdrive handle some of the weight at times. Welcome an enjoy

Hi from Orlando, the biggest different in towing is it's like having a parachute tied to the truck, it will slow you down a little, but even my Dakota which are known for having no rear brakes and I never had a problem stopping the toon.

Toonriver.... congrats on the new boat...it looks great and I'm sure you and your family will get many years of great memories from it. Don't fret over the single axle trailer with no brakes... I've got a 20 footer on a single axle trailer and it's never been a problem. Of course we only go about 15 miles or so each way to the lake, but we have to trailer it each time we take it out. As for having the 60 hp motor, again, don't sweat it... I've got a 75 on mine and to be honest, it's plenty fast for our puposes... I get about 25-26 mph by gps under perfect conditions and while I would love to go like a bat out of hell sometimes, for what we bought the toon for, she's got plenty of speed. welcome to the forum.

like your boat . Dont worry about brakes just launch the boat truck first pontoon will take care of itself Na its like pullin a barn door. my 06 silverado w/ 4.8 liter is a puddin on the interstate pullin . it'll never see fourth gear so I won't even try to pull over 50 anymore cause it just burns fuel for nothing

I have a similar set up and no problems without brakes, just plan ahead of time for the stop when you can and welcome!
