Galley

Does anyone have a small galley? I am looking at a 40 inch galley for my new Bennington and want to no how usefull they are. Is the water on an electric pump? Do you fill a water tank or does it pull from the water you are in?

A galley is a personal thing, and some folks may somehow place a lot of value in having "maybe even you". When we were buying the marina had several boats with galley's in stock, and several were right nice boats too. The actual water was potable and stored in a five gallon portable container stored in the console under the sink. Their models used a non-powered hand pump to supply the "sink" with water.

Usually you'll loose a side gate entrance on the boat for installation of the galley unit itself. And this alone can sometimes be a PIA when docking, rafting off, etc. by restricting egress on and off or even through the boat.

Most of the boats I've observed with a galley installed never actually use the sink or water. But many like the convenience of the storage in the unit for stashing munchies, purses, etc. out of sight and somewhat protected. It's your choice but personally I wouldn't bother with one myself.

A few people over the years have removed them when they found out they wasn't using them, most have said they took up more room than they were worth.

That's what I was thinking. Just wanted some thoughts. Seems to me, you can rinse your hands off in the lake. Thanks for the input. I am going crazy waiting for my boat and keep over thinking the optios. The only other option I am questioning is the rear swim platform. It is a benningtin gli 2075. The swim platform doesnt seem that functional and the standard later seemd a lot stronger. I am driving myself crazy. I can't wait to get my boat and start enjoying it, instead of worrying about my decisions.

When we bought our boat, I didn't think we would use it, but it really does get a lot of use. we have quite the set up actually. I mounted my grill beside our galley, so I have the grilling area and the counter area side by side with a cutting board area and under that is the trash can. It make a great area for making sandwiches and/or serving multipal people from the grill. I will have to admit that I have never ran water through the sink but it makes a great area to hold the lettus, tomatos and other round objects.

I know a guy who filled his water pump with JD.

For hand washing we keep the packs of hand wipes in the boat

I was contemplating fabing up something under the sink to hold one of those mini Henikin kegs and swapping out the faucet with a beer tap. The life would be perfect..
Dont know what the wife would think about it though

We opted for a galley on our Premier but my wife chose one without the sink. Frankly, she didn't want to fool with the sink and preferred the work space. Great for storage of munchies etc. as others have indicated and for food prep on the top. We either use wet wipes for hand cleaning or take a gallon of water in a jug. Anything that needs washing will go back to the RV.

However, I will say this. If I want a sink on my unit, I much prefer to have one on a galley than one on my helm. I have seen sink options on the helm and I personally don't care for them there. Again, it is a personal thing.

Use ours all the time, one of the main reasons we bought the PC is that it's like an RV on 'toons.

We use the crap out of our galley. Every time we go out, I go throught probably 2 1/2 gal. of fresh water from the sink, for hand washing, and for our dog water. Yes, this is the #1 thing we use it for. I have a boxer, and she has a weak stomache. The last thing I want is for her to get a bug from drinking lake water, so we fill her water bowl from the galley sink. If it spills, oh well, we have plenty more. Also, we quity often have little kids on the boat, and the added fresh water has come in handy. Not to mention I'll be adding my own little one this summer to use the fresh water. Now the livewell, we only use for a trash can. but that's a different topic.

Finally got some pics and here is what my Galley (if it cna be called that) looks like. Work very well for 8 people.

That really really looks good. I love mine and use it often. Wish it looked as sleek as yours.

This was something we didnt want. It looked like it used more space then it was worth. But as you can see, many like em and many dont. As mentioned, its a personal thing.

That said, if it was filled with JD, then the fricken thing would Rock!
