Kentucky , Tennessee high water
My wife and I finally got on the water this weekend { first time since April 17 } and the first time since the heavy rain and flooding that took place about three weeks ago throughout Kentucky and Tennessee . We boat on a small lake in central Kentucky { Herrington Lake } and the high water has really had an affect on the lake ! This is starting our sixth boating season on Herrington and I have never seen the water so high and so much debris floating in the lake ! We heard over the weekend that Kentucky Power and Utilities are dropping the lake levels about a foot a day , so we hope the bulk of debris will make it to the shore line and the conservation league can work on the clean up . I cannot see how it will be much better by Memorial Day weekend , but who knows ? My question or comment , is anyone else seeing the results of the flooding ? I have a couple of friends with boats on Lake Cumberland and they said after the rains there were a lot of debris , but have not asked lately . Any feed- back ?

I boat on Truman Lake in Missouri, it was built strictly for flood impoundment, and to save the poor bastards downstream on LOTO
This is how much it has gone up in 21 days, 16 feet high right now but dropping today. It happens every spring. If we were to have gone down this past weekend we would not have been able to boat do to debris. By next week with the high temps good wind and the lake starting to drop, Most of the big stuff will be at the damn in 4-5 days. Then they take two barges with cranes and load up all the timber and off load it on shore....

We have our boat at Center Hill Lake in Smithville, Tn. They are repairing portions of the dam, so the lake has been down for quite a while. I went to check on the boat after the storms and the lake was up 12-15 feet (which would be about normal), but was back down this past weekend.

We went out Sunday on Lake Cumberland. Lot of trash on the lake. After the big rain the lake went up 21 feet. Now it is down about 12 ft. Maybe it will be down another 6 or 7 ft. by this weekend. Hopefully a lot of the trash will be gone by then.

Hey, look on the bright side, ya can get back into some of the coves without worrying about hitting tree stumps.curtiscapk wrote:I boat on Truman Lake in Missouri, it was built strictly for flood impoundment, and to save the poor bastards downstream on LOTO![]()

What happens at the lake stays at the lake. Unless I have my camera handy.

That is a nice lake, I am a tow boat captain and ran from Paducah KY to Nashville one time. I enjoyed the Cumberland just so happend to be memorial day weekend. I seen more titties then i have any where else that weekend.Randallb wrote:We went out Sunday on Lake Cumberland. Lot of trash on the lake. After the big rain the lake went up 21 feet. we boat on Kentucky lake and that rain 3-4 weeks ago raised Ky lake about 10' over summer pool, I beleive for a record. Now the lake is for flood control too, but it's been a looong time since it's been that high. With that said though it's only about 6 inches over summer pool today, and looks like it will be just right for memorial weekend.
Not sure about the debris, hopefully that passed by.
