Rogue Wave dented Toon

#1 Post by pepper1126 » Sat Jun 05, 2010 4:58 pm

Today on Lake Lanier we hit a huge set of waves, the biggest I have ever seen. I had to turn into them and the waves went well over 4 feet above the rail. After beaching the boat we noticed that the wave actually dented in the outside of the toon. We tried to fix it from the inside but it wont go back in the steel rail slits that it fits in. Does anyone out there have an idea what to do? I will add photos tomorrow. This sucks but could have been worse. :donno

I had one of my gates sheet metal bent out and came out at the bottom of groove. I took a wide bladed screw driver and gently a little at a time twisted it and worked it down the grove opening it up slightly. I was then able to get the flat sheet metal back in the groove. I then took a blunt screw driver and gently tapped the metal that was crimped down back down snug. I forget whether it was on the inside or out side of the frame. If you take your time and go slow you should be able to get it back in and tight. Good Luck! :2cents

Probably from some of those mega house boats. Guess you are talking about the fence an not the actual toon. Pretty sure your insurance would cover it. A good body shop guy could probably fix it, if it is not creased. I haven't had a boat in Lanier since I was up near Holiday Marina. Couldn't even drink a beer, boats coming at you from all directions.

Most likely came from a large cruiser that likes to drag the ass end and never plain. Those large wake will still be rolling after the cruiser is long gone. I hate those assholes. :fyou
I actually had a set of wakes wash over the front on my boat and knock my boys (much younger then) off the seats and damaged my fencing.
