Where do you tie your anchor rope?

#1 Post by bigwalleye » Fri Jul 16, 2010 9:06 pm

First year with a toon and so far have not anchored. where do you tie the rope on the toon? Do you tie it where the trailer strap goes or do you tie it on the corner cleats?

I added two cleats, port and starboard bow, just inside of the rubrail. I found on my boat, it's very hard to reach the trailer winch eye bolt out in the water.

I pull rope through the bow eye and tie off to a cleat. For some reason a toon will not anchor into a head wind and stay there with only one anchor. They love to sit sideways to wakes it seems. When we raft every other is front or rear anchor and seems we still get sideways

Given a steady breeze or current I'll run the line through the center if I want to stay straight back off the anchor, off the port cleat if I want to sway to starboard and off the starboard cleat if I want to sway to port (handy if your close to shore). You can also amplify this effect by turning you helm to port or starboard.

I had cleats installed on all 4 corners. Also, I plan to get a second anchor.

I use my bow cleats. Like stated above, it depends on which way I want the toon to face into the wind wether I use the starboard or port side cleats.

Usually I tie mine off to the ski tow bar right above the engine.

I'm sure this works great, but I would advise (along with the USCG) to not anchor from the stern, unless you are already anchored from the bow, and the stern anchor is just to prevent swaying. Just my $0.02

My toon only has ubolts at all four corners, no cleats... I use them, one in the front for most stuff and another out the back if I am swinging around!

I guess if you were anchoring in a strong current or a really windy area, that would be the preferred method, but normally when I'm anchored it's back in a cove and mainly just to hold the boat in one place against a slight breeze. My front fence goes all the way to the front of my deck, so it is not too easy to get to either the cleats or the rings on the front of the toons...

I have also been known to use different points around the boat to tie off on..just to get the shade of the bimini in the right spot.

What kind and weight anchors are you guys using?

The current was so strong the other day in my lake I had to go and get new anchors. I had the metal one that digs into the ground and 2 mushrooms. One was 15 and the other was 10 granted we were only in 4ft of water at the sandbar
