I mentioned something about this in an early article, but it is kinda far down the board now so I think it will get missed.

I wanted to get you guys to chyme in on something I have heard two different sides of. My Uncle whom has had boats most of his life and is a marine mechanic on the side tells me to use synthetic oil in my gas and to use High octane (93) it would get better performance and extend the life of the boat.

On the other hand I had another mechanic tell me that in smaller engines you shouldnt run high octane because an engine is not designed for it.

What do you guys run in yours, I would like to hear some of your expert opinions. In my mind I think it would be better to use higher octane and synthetic oil, I mean if its higher end how could it do anything but good? Motorcycles are required 93 so that whole small engine theory the other guy had I think is a load. Thats just my take on it

I don't run synthetic oil, but I do run 93 octane. I've never been a fan of synthetic oils for some reason. I don't have a good reason why it's just my opinion.

I use what is recommended in the owners manual. You will get many opinions but the manufacturer has real data to justify their recommendations, not to mention having their reputation on the line.

I use merc's premium plus since I picked up a case when I was at the dealers. I sometimes run 89 since I am not really sure, an also heard they were not designed for the higher octane, so I just split the difference between the 87 an 93,when I think it needs a little kick. In the auto when I use the seafoam or gumout cleaner I try to run a tank of amoco/bp 93 an this seem to work well, according to the fuel mpg computer.
