Luckily within a couple of years the age won't matter, you will need the safety course for PWC's AND boats, any age. I am stunned every time we go out how many PWC's cut us off, and even boaters, pulling CHILDREN on tubes that cut right in front of us! Are you kidding me!!!????? Our very first maiden voyage, if my husband hadn't been watching he would have t-boned an idiot (or vice-versa) that shot out of a dock going about 70. Dumb a$$.
Did you see this story in the Smith Mtn Eagle.

Fire and rescue volunteers have busy weekend
By REBECCA JACKSON, Smith Mountain Eagle

Boats running aground and breaking down and a rafter who went missing for nearly an hour kept Smith Mountain Lake Marine Fire and Rescue volunteers busy over the weekend, Deputy Chief Al Busch said Monday.

On Sunday evening, a man riding a tube towed by his son apparently fell off the tube near Craddock Creek and the son didn't notice him missing until he'd returned to home port. Volunteers aboard three fireboats, the Huddleston Rescue Squad and VDGIF conservation officers searched for nearly an hour before being notified that the missing man, who'd been wearing a lifejacket, turned up safe at home.

"A passing boater picked him up and took him home," said Busch. "He was okay."

In VA, if you are towing someone with a jetski, there is supposed to be a passenger sitting backwards on the jetski to watch the person being towed.

If I had my way, the father AND son would never use a jetski again and make them pay for the search effort for being so stupid.

There has to be something said about all the PWC safety conversation. Back around 93 I took the Coast Guard class at a local Jr. college. The instruction was based more on navigation and such. I guess there was not near as many jet ski's around sort of like people on two ski's...more wake boarders today. I re-took the boaters safety course in 09 because I had gone a few years without a boat. The course online seemed like it was at least 75% geared towards PWC. That tells me that at least Virginia sees problems with folks on PWC. Just adding to the conversation but good luck with your repairs. Bill

Bill......you are right, I noticed the same thing.
I just wish the laws were more strictly enforced.
It seems too many of the patrol boats hang out around Bridgwater Plaza checking registrations and enforcing the No Wake zone instead of patrolling and looking out for reckless boating.
